45 year fan here as well. I dont know what team you saw in 50 years, but after 1998, I'm convinced either the vikings are truly cursed, or the NFL is indeed rigged. The Jury is still out for KOC. Wish we would have gotten Harbaugh. KOC is far to soft, and the team reflects that. No killer instinct, soft trenches. Glad they let Cook walk, Cousins walk, and Mattison walk. Other than that, they have alot to prove to make me think they can win a SB. Their roster is not even close right now.

@@adamboone3565I understand but I look at it completely different. I wanted JJ to go to the best scenario possible which was Minnesota, of the teams that needed QB's. I knew it would make Minnesota a playoff team within 2-3 years but Detroit is so good and will be for the next 5 years+ that it won't matter anymore than any other NFC team drafting JJ. I guess I'm so confident in Detroit roster that I don't feel threatened by JJ/Minnesota. I think JJ ceiling is on par with a Jared Goff...I put Jordan Love in that same class, top 5-8, probably never considered the best though.

These are the things the untrained eye doesn't see. I said long ago that JJ is the most NFL ready QB in the draft... Folks get too enamored with big numbers... You can't be that type of offense unless you can convert on 3rd downs. JJ is the head of the snake, and his ability to convert at an absurd rate is what gave UM the ability to run the bejeezus out of the football. He is your prototypical mid 90's / early 00's type QB. @mikesmith78209 ай бұрын
Still not sure that trade was advisable. The original claim is that we moved up to prevent the Broncos from moving up instead. However, the Broncos were never interested in McCarthy. I have yet to hear if the raiders were perhaps involved if that is the case then the move at least makes sense. But, if the raiders were not involved at all we gave up a pair of picks this year for absolutely no reason. The Jets were not going to take him and nor were the Broncos. I get wanting to secure your guy, but from the looks of it, the Vikings got played because teams knew they wanted McCarthy. Personally I think we could have gotten him at 11 no problem and not had to give up the majority of the middle of our draft.

@mikesmith78209 ай бұрын
I will start with the fact that I trust KOC. However, with that stated, I'm still not sold on JJ being capable of being an elite QB in the NFL level. He is very much backwaeds from any other QB prospect I have seen. Most QB prospects the question is, can they develop the mental side of the game to continue to find success at the next level. We know that they have the physical tools because they have displayed them over and over at the college level, and that's what makes them top prospects is the physical tools they have and display. Things like athleticism in and out of the pocket, arm strength, and accuracy. For most QBs, we have gotten a good read on those physical tools and is the reason they are drafted. With McCarthy, it's the polar flip. He was drafted for his intangibles and the mental side of the game. The question with McCarthy comes down to does he have the physical tools to be an elite QB at the next level? From everything I have seen, including this breakdown, I have some massive questions on his arm strength and accuracy. Mentally, he can make the right decision and progress through his reads. But then you watch a play like in this video of him against Minnesota he makes the right read and the proper throw. However, there is zero reason that play should not have resulted in 6. Despite the fact that the reciever made the catch, McCarthy horribly under threw that ball. He under threw it so badly that the WR had to basically stop running his route to be able to make the catch. Which also allows the defender a chance to get back into the play. That ball was thrown on a line when it should have been a touch pass that the receiver was able to float under in stride. Hopefully, McCarthy is able to learn to throw a touch pass if he can't, I really don't see him panning out at the next level. Viking fans need to understand this so that we are not placing unrealistic expectations on him as a fan base. This kid is not close to being ready to start in the NFL. Hope he can make the improvements he needs to make and learn the things he needs to learn. Sam Darnold should be the starter to begin the year. Honestly, wouldn't mind if Darnold is the guy this year, and we let McCarthy grow and develop for a whole year before we put him out there.
