As an Indian it was great insight 👍 this was something expected from Britain....... The power of appologetically saying "Sorry " has immense power .

Amazing speech. But little seems to be mentioned/known about Tasmania/Van Diemens Land and it’s native peoples. All history across that island should be highly recognised and studied and have its true story told. I saw first hand large pieces of our country’s history getting erased and forgotten in the few years I was there. Love the speech, but our country really started there. And also believe have seen and heard of a ‘request’ (however worded) by/from the queen herself for their colonisers to do exactly that in the ‘by any means necessary’ mindset…… they were paid highly to go against ‘orders’. Our history is quite disgusting up close.

Two steps back to take one forward. Let’s all improve our knowledge, understanding and relationships with our own country’s native people as stated - oldest and one of most amazing yet so little known about it > by all!

I've been a proud supporter of Kevin Rudd for 50 years but this speech illustrates a populist divergence from one of our Nation's greatest aspirations -- A Fair Go for all regardless of colour, creed or class. This VtoP proposal is vastly different to any previous action for Reconciliation. This enshrines the continuation of (reverse) Racism! What happened to our egalitarian ethos ?

Reverse racism isn't a thing mate. White folks don't face extra hurdles each day because they're white..

@@jarrodanderson4825 . Do you? They already have a dedicated Federal Dept of Indigenous Affairs, led by Indigenous Ministers, 12 indigenous Federal MPs, 29 State MPs making this minority group better represented than the national average citizen . That's fine if that is what is decided by the ballot box. Throw in two more Special national flags, NAIDOC Week, NITV, ABC media saturation and I won't list the numerous other agencies. On January 26 (Change the date. No problem.) was dominated by indigenous issues. These people , less than 5% of population, are NOT being overlooked ! Google tells me 53% of the land is owned or controlled by them. Is Reconciliation, (a good idea btw), a process with an end point or does it just go on forever? Does it go both ways? Awarding special Rights according to parentage is what created the problems. Enshrining that into the Constitution will only guarantee ongoing division. Victimhood is unhealthy for both 'sides'.

Not much changed - same atrocious conditions for the original people of this country we all gather and thrive on - 🤦♂️ smh
@chrisknight9682 Жыл бұрын
The term "original people" is an historical one. I, as an Australian born grandfather, am older and live closer to the simplistic , natural elements than the vast majority. The people so often referred to as original are our contemporaries. Some have suffered some have thrived -- as it is in the general population. Avoiding this categorisation according to parentage would go a lot further toward equality than anything legislated or any frills added to our Constitution ever could. Educating the various Police Forces and the Judiciary is the elephant in the room. Let's address the problems where they really are .

@@chrisknight9682 yes - right - ok - doesn’t change the fact - always was, always will be - I am studying “aboriginal studies” at university - I have deep respect for the traditional ways of the people connected to the earth - much peace ✌🏾 to all who read this
