It's so hard when you love both the little birds and the things that will take advantage of these injured ones for food.

That's fantastic! I love how the schools are involved. What a wonderful way to educate AND teach love of conservation of these sweet little babies 🐢❤

How about a sponsorship from a trail cam company?! Humans are much less likely to do awful things when there are cameras! I know it sucks to have to think like this, just an idea. Thank you for all you do for these turtles 🐢 ❤

I can’t believe there are almost 900 views, but I was just the 146th to hit the like button. It’s a free way, those of us who are poor, can help Nerd. I always think, t’s the least I can do, since I watch often.

I have conservation land in my back yard with lots of turtles that call the waters there home.

In Plymouth, NH there were some swampy woods/flood plain that had a stream going through it that led to the Pemi River. It was maybe 2-3ft deep and 10ft wide and one spring when there was still ice covering it I thought I saw a rock that looked like a turtle but thought that couldn't be. When it thawed I went in and grabbed one and it was a wood turtle. There was maybe 4 or 5 we'd see on that short stretch of stream. Hopefully they're still doing well, this was 15 yrs ago.

Poor little kildeer, unfortunately when they are young is when they are at most risk. Bird bones tend to heal fast from what I remember. I remember a neighbor that had a Canada goose with a broken leg, my mother vet wrapped it so it wouldn't pick at it. It lived in the yard till it healed in about 2 weeks. It couldn't fly off since they need a running start to fly. Hope it'll be okay. I didn't understand how your turtle math works, more as to *why* you add up certain numbers depending on scoot/notch positions over just a simple scoot number labeling the notches. I understand it's to identify and monitor them. The math just seems more complicated than it could be. 😅 The headstarting growth success is really awesome, that'll help wonders with how fast they got big enough to have a better chance in the wild. That garter was totally acting like a twig. 😂

Just curious but wouldn't the screen do more harm then help its like putting a target on that area n they can just dig under it?

Does notching hurt the turtles? I remember hearing that drilling a hole in a tortoise shell to tie them up used to be common practice, but that it hurt the animal so it's no longer done. Probably was on a Garden State Tortoise video.

Oof, songbird rehabbers can be harder to come by for sure. Poor little nipper 🩶 it’s tough but we know nature wastes nothing and something that needs a meal will likely have one.
