Techno used to be raw, you can feel the slight beats mismtatch, but that's the art of classic mixing of these two guys. People like me would actually come to listen and see the raw blending mismatch mixing these guys did back in the days. They're still headlining festival because they're not panpot or all those euro techno guys which u can find anywhere in the clubs. These are what the music techno used to be. And people like me still craving for it, and I believe many out there feel the same. PS: I'm an avid fan of Richie Hawtin as he carries the genre into the next level.
@thingsss7 жыл бұрын
What he say! ;-) this is balls out, knife edge mixing, listening to what happening in the mix and reacting in a fraction of second to turn it into something creative and exciting. What the majority or people on this thread are calling "mistakes" we call FUNK. That looseness / sloppiness around the rhythm is the very essence of funk, its how you pull and push the dance floor on to something special, not wrong footing them but giving them the sense that they might actually be flying. Billie Holiday use to be able to do this with her voice, being ever so slightly behind or in front of the rhythm to give a tune a playful elastic feel. noting more to add really 100% agree about Hawtin. Its about moving feet.

@@TheInsideVideo To be honest yes. Sport fans are freaking losers, getting all excited about other people's activities. It is too passive, it is a sad way of experiencing life. It is one thing to admire something or at least give a constructive criticism, if you have anything good to say, however it is a completely different thing, when you are simply a consumer. Your opinion as a consumer is worthless. Most people should simply shut up and let people better than them do activities.

TBH this is how Derrick plays and its all preference at the end of the day. There are times where the mix comes off as rough. I think Derrick tried a bit too hard here especially since Kevin is with him. But there are other times where the high risk pays off and kills. Some of the shit you guys call not on beat or not a great blend is a play of funk and play on energy. Kills the repetitive nature of electronic music and creates a groove.

The perfection is the sometimes appearing imperfection. It is that element which makes the elements sounds human technological. Techno is music that sounds like machines. THe dj is the controller of the machines. It is so much better than all this preautomated or prerecroded sets of so many other big names..Paul I look at you! This polished mixes dont have soul and sound not like music but like repetition of one and the same.

@abk507457 жыл бұрын
The issue is that these guys come from an era where Techno was mixed at 135+ bpm. Now that the music has slowed down the cuts and rapid transitions sound jarring. Love KMS and Derrick and will always support them. They always crush Detroit when they come home, but the improv style just doesn't work if you aren't playing shredding records one after another.
@revolutionjo7 жыл бұрын
I'm still wondering why techno slowed down... Is it just another stupid trend?
@abk507457 жыл бұрын
Ravers got lazy I guess. I don't know, but it seems to be picking back up a bit. People like DAX J who are up and comers consistently play 134+. Even, Carl Cox has been playing around 131 again even though thats a far cry from his sets in the 90s.
@revolutionjo7 жыл бұрын
Glad to see some people are playing faster sets again. Most of the tracks Dax J plays are older tracks, though (or am I wrong?).

True, this B2B set didn't come out the best. Still have to give them credit for doing something different. I think they just needed way more practice together or maybe they just got up there without planning and just let it ride? That's the price you pay for taking risks. Truth is most of the dj's up on stage today are there because the technology went digital and made dj'ing easy enough for the masses to learn. Take away cue points and synced effects and the standardization of dance tracks and see how many could still put a set together.
