It Doesn’t need to be banned it needs to be regulated. Now in a public setting I say rules need to be put in place to prevent it from being used to the point where fishing becomes catching. So maybe putting a limit on fish with boats that have FFS. Only allow it during recreational fishing no tournament use unless it’s during practice after that then use your wit and and skill,,, to get rid of it completely would be a problem. I myself learn a lot with it and being that I live in south Louisiana it doesn’t work to the effect that it does in a northern fishery. I use it mostly to see detail of lay-downs and runouts,, it has its benefits and it’s faults. But it’s not the technology that’s the problem it’s the anglers that abuse it,,,

One thing to keep is mind is Chase Anderson Pesident / CEO of BASS. He seems like a really good guy, with the best intentions 'overall', . . . but he doesn't come across as a seasoned angler / sportsman. I'm sure he's a great businessman and fully aware of the FFS controversy . . . but I think your prediction of a 'Half Measure' to right-the-ship in the future is spot on. Chase doesn't strike me as the type of guy who will make any 'significant' change . . . I see more of a 'small correction' to appease a few with hopes that this all just fades-away.

Randy, The words to attack FFS with is “fair chase “. In the world of outdoor sports, especially record books, the definition of “fair chase “ is very important. You eluded to this previously with the Boone and Crocket Club record book. As you know, the sport of fishing has all kinds of “record books “. Even our state of Missouri has explicit rules for record fish. In Missouri, if you were driving down a gravel road, saw a buck in a field, parked the truck half a mile away, snuck through the woods, set up in a likely draw that leads to the field, then shot the buck that came tip toeing through, you just broke the law. You can’t purse game that you saw from a motorized vehicle, boat, skateboard or bike. You can’t harvest turkeys that a buddy told you were they were on a cellphone. You can’t sit in a tree stand, fly a drone over the property, spot the deer with a camera and then go shoot it. It’s not considered fair chase and is disrespectful to the animals being pursued and not allowed by the law or certifying organizations for record book entries. It’s also a “black eye “ to legitimate sportsmen that understand that the chase is what creates the challenge and excitement that makes us keep coming back. It’s only a matter of time that a fisherman here in MO uses FFS and sticks a record fish out in the middle of the lake. Is the MDC going to allow it in the hook and line division ? Does the MDC consider FFS to be fair chase ? That’s what I think is what needs to be determined, a definition of “fair chase “ for fishing that is honored by conservation commissions , record books and tournaments. Do record book fish deserve less respect than record book trophy animals ? I would argue that most record fish are usually older and at least, if not more, rare than a Boone and Crocket buck.

No because "hold big bass up on stage make muh organization more cooler". That's always the argument when people are for live weigh ins, it makes the viewing experience more special. Except on the Elite Series, Texas is making them catch, weigh, release and that seems to have not affected the viewer ship for Lake Fork at all, hmmm. Anyone who is against FFS should also be 100% against pulling spawning fish you can see off beds in tournaments and hauling them to the weigh in.

So where does it end. 500fps crossbows that out shoot some guns. All the new guns that shoot lights out at 1k. Range finders and scopes with, ON X, Bows with scopes and 100 yard plus capable. Drones, food plots, trail cameras. Fishing apps. 400 plus H.P cars that get high 20mpg. The same can be said for lake mapping and 2d sonar. I agree that we should get rid of it. I don't think it should be in tournaments or that anyone should be using it. I think the DNR should have it (of course). But, also, of course, this isn't going away. Different tournament agencies may limit it's use or outright ban it but it isn't going away or off of the store shelves. You can't turn around the technology arrow and point it back to where it came from. I wish we could.

Muskies Inc. has recently made a position statement on FFS. The statement has a bit more detail, but the meaty part is: "Fair Chase” is a concept that hunters have long promoted. This is a practice in that the hunter does not take game with an unfair advantage over the game animal. The same concept applies to muskie fishing. “Sharpshooting,” the practice of using live view, 360, or side scan to target individual muskie, should be considered unethical. Basically the gist of the statement is that "sharpshooting" is considered not fair chase for muskies.

The most effective way to start eliminating FFS is to contact your state DFW, or whatever your state calls it. If it is in fact deemed detrimental to the bass population the state will step in. I’m sure you’ll start to see bait companies pull some funds away due to lagging sales.

We should have stopped with 18’ boats and 3D if not before. I honestly wouldn’t care as much about the elites, but it is destroying the entry level opportunities some of us older guys busted ass and built for our kids. I know I can take my graph and go scan for the kids in high school events and gain a major advantage over 3/4 of the field and currently the rules are pretty much as long as I am not the one holding the rod it’s allowed. Money has always bought some advantages to be sure, but it has never totally eliminated the ones who have a little less from the winner’s circle and this is doing exactly that. You have to have the best of everything now to compete in the lowest levels of the sport.

Randy knows it wouldn't be successful. Look at the Lake Lanier tourney earlier this year. Only 47 out of 200 boats showed up for a non-FF sonar tournament.

For years and to some extent Eve today. Major League Baseball has catered to the old guard and “tradition”. In that time they continued to see their ratings drop as well as their fan base. They mostly lost the younger fans. And worse, kids became less willing to play baseball over other sports including soccer. Baseball did nothing to attract the young but did everything they could to hold onto tradition. Professional fishing is going to see the same thing happen if they give into the Randy Blaukats and other veterans who are no longer relevant in the sport. If they choose to only listen to the older fan who is upset because the guys they watched are no longer dominant or relevant then Professional Bass fishing will suffer the same as MLB. If you ignore or in many cases continue to chastise the youth in your sport then eventually you will have no sport.

It's not fishing, it's finding. None of my best fishing memories ever started with "so I was staring at a screen" , but have plenty of "my phone rang and I paused to grab it and got smashed". GPS and depth finders only during tournaments, but keep everything else(sonar techs) legal to use during practice so they'll still be able to say they found the winning fish with the ultrasoundbassfinder 9000 during practice. I don't agree with it in principle outside of tournaments either. I'm having a blast out in the mountain creeks chasing trouts, good luck getting your boat and cheater gear up there. I use to laugh at "uppity" fly fisherman in my fishing career, but I think they've just been keeping it real.

So much so that I think, “It’s not an accurate term,” and then I say “I spotlighted that bass off of that point.” 😂 The strongest case against FFS in the equipment limitation issue. I think you are 100% right about other sports having it and FFS changing the whole nature of the sport. I think that bass fishing as a sport is cowardly. Define a true pro fisherman, that's a joke, but as far as ffs either all tournament fisherman use it or restrict it. It's simple, the damage to the fisheries have already been done,the only way to bring it back is to limit this tournament crap.

I'm so sick of hearing all of your nonsense about hating FFS. If it was cheating, super easy, and non skill based than everyone would be catching them especially the older guys with more experience because you know they have FFS on their boats too. The fact is a lot of old hammers can't hang with FFS with these younger guys and people like Randy are upset they aren't what they once were to be able to adapt to new technology and techniques. It's about skill not cheating. Being skilled at FFS is no different than someone being skilled in any other category of catching them. Some guys are better than other which inherently makes it not cheating because again it's SKILL!!! How can something skill based be cheating? Can anyone answer that? Like Rick Clunb said if you get rid of FFS than the tours will no longer be the best bass anglers in the world because the best bass anglers in the world use FFS.

Randy, As I’ve asked before. Would appreciate your answer on this. If all you old school guys, have all this knowledge, know how, patterns, fish behavior, and all this other stuff. And are experts at it. It seems to me, if you combine all that knowledge with the FFS technology, shouldn’t it make you even better and let you dominate? Why isn’t that the case? I mean it’s not like you drop the trolling motor anywhere you want, and there is the fish and they automatically bite. You’re not catching them on a damn Damiki year round. Please answer this question, and tell me how in the world, the guys that supposedly know the most about bass fishing and bass behavior, can’t combine their knowledge with technology and dominate.
