I started my channel few months ago and it's amazing how it grew in few months. I say start a KZbin channel if you have something valuable to share to the world. That's not a great strategy for a beginner. Because no one knows what anyone wants to see, you'll do that only to reap nothing in the end but frustration when things go side way. One should do what they find enjoyable and use that as a fuel to keep going, because then you won't worry about the numbers. Eventually, maybe the right people who enjoy the same thing might appear.

@@KevinChee I'm not her, but I have a similar impulse to create for KZbin rather than Instagram or TikTok. My two cents are that Instagram has become just a huge marketplace, while TikTok lacks depth due to its short-form nature. From what I've seen, people are growing tired of superficial content and endless offers across all platforms. I am too. So, I believe there are still creators and viewers who want KZbin to remain a place for learning, inspiration, storytelling, and sharing in-depth thoughts in a more authentic way, not just another business-driven platform.

I don’t like when people talk about whether or not starting a channel is “worth it”. Start a channel if you have something to say. If you want to share your life, your opinions, your travels, or you want to teach something. Start a channel be you want to. Not because you want to make money or become internet famous. If you have a passion for a topic, you will have all the motivation that you need, and whether you gain thousands of subscribers or not shouldn’t even matter. If you get monetized, great! If not, no big deal because that isn’t your goal.

Eh, see my dear. Achieving success on KZbin is not by luck. When you see people making it big, and you pay close attention, you will notice that they are doing something people often overlook. For example, I went to your channel and the first thing I discovered was that your channel doesn't have a clear niche. You upload videos about different things all the time and this makes your channel disorganized. And when people don't understand the clear niche (or purpose) of a channel, they tend not to keep up with it. I'm not trying to bring you down, but I just want you to know that KZbin is not by luck. There are so many things one needs to do that will give you success in KZbin within a short time.

Through mindset changes like my sit down vids, exercises like yoga or stretching, a healthy diet via homegrown food, having a hobby you enjoy, like reading, thrifting and last taking care of your personal hygiene. I mention it in most of my videos. We have accountability checks on my community page, and I have it all in my like description page to read. Kevin, I agree with pretty much all that you said. I would also say that if you want to start a KZbin channel looking for fame and fortune, and you already have a track record/ history, a unique skillset/ depth of knowledge, and/ or body of work/ art to draw from, then yes, start a channel as a means of getting your content out to the world. The KZbin platform might get you exposure that could elevate what you have to share to far greater levels. Where many go wrong is thinking they can find fame and fortune on KZbin without any actual content with substance (blame all the social media knee jerk "influencers" that many aspire to for causing this). This also isn't helped by all those videos claiming "How to beat the KZbin algorithm" or "I blew up my girlfriends channel in 1 month (100 to 100K subscribers - OMG!)", as these just give false hope for wannabe KZbinrs. Almost all these videos claim that their secret tricks will magically grow your channel, but they never cover the fact that if your channel and videos have no substance, this is totally futile because you'll never be able to sustain the momentum if one of your videos might take off. You are also totally right in that it's not the number of subscribers that is important, it's how many of your subscribers return when you publish new videos. I've seen some channels with 250K subscribers barely getting 10 - 20K views with their latest videos. Meanwhile, I've seen channels with 30K subscribers getting 125K views with their recent uploads. It's better to have a smaller but more reliable subscriber base than a much larger number of subscribers of which most don't ever come back. Plus you get paid on video watch hours and view count, not how many subscribers you have. The only financial way that subscriber count matters is if you want to monetize your channel, because it used to be that you needed 1000 subs and 4000 watch hours to be eligible for KZbin's partnership program. What drew me to my favourite channels on KZbin, and also what inspired me to create my own channel, was the passion people have for a particular interest. If you are passionate about what you do, and you have the knowledge and skills to demonstrate it, then you will find a community of others sharing that interest too. That will help build you a core base of sustainable subscribers and help grow your channel. If you only produce content by bandwagon jumping and chasing subscribers, unless you are a very good actor, then it won't come across as authentic, you won't find your niche, and you'll never find that core base of returning subscribers. For my channel, I put a lot of work into it and now have approx. 74 long form videos published over 4 years. Many of those videos took days, if not weeks or months to put together, because of the amount of research, filming, scripting and editing that was involved. It has paid off, because even though I'm a tiny channel at 2.3K subscribers, I've been monetized for well over a year now. It's the worst paying career I've ever had if I calculate my hourly rate in terms of what I get paid for the hours I actually put in, but I'm not doing it for the money, I'm doing it because it's my passion. Though of course, if my channel blows up and I get a huge windfall, that would be a massive bonus and I certainly wouldn't complain! Anyway, thanks Kevin for a well thought out and well presented video covering this subject.
@KevinCheeАй бұрын
Hey. Thanks. Took me a while to get through this but appreciate the effort you put in to share your experience. 100% agree with you. It makes me stick to my stomach when someone claims they can grow in 1 month what others take to do in 1 year. If they are sharing their experience then that's ok but once they start generalising it as though it is something they know but you don't, that's when it gets me. I think subscribers do have its benefit apart from the monetization requirement. Some sponsors do look at the channel size as well so if a channel wants to aim for sponsors, that's something they can think about. Of course, they'll need to back it up with their views as well, otherwise the sponsors wouldn't come back again. KZbin is huge, there's a place for different niches. Some are authentic, some are fake, some are just purely for entertainment. I think there's a place for every type of audience so I wouldn't be mad if others don't watch the content I do (which is a very small %). Having said that, again, it does make me mad if someone generalises my content with others and starts making comparison in terms of growth. I think at the end of the day, KZbin runs like a business. It does not have a fix hourly pay rate (that would be a job) and, even though it doesn't pay well, KZbin does give us the potential to increase that pay. Not saying it is easy, but just saying it is possible. I guess for me, at the end of the day, it is about making the money to support my passion. It allows me to buy myself more time (such as quitting 9-5) so that I can focus on what I want to do which is creating and providing services/products that my community wants.

This video really breaks down the reality of starting and maintaining a KZbin channel, and I appreciate the no-sugarcoating approach. It’s so true that the obsession with subscriber counts can derail the entire purpose of creating content. Measuring success based on revenue or how a channel supports your business makes way more sense than just chasing numbers. The point about treating KZbin as a business is spot on. Many people underestimate how much planning and strategy go into creating consistent content that aligns with their goals. Using KZbin as a tool to funnel viewers into a broader business model, like the example of the 8,000-subscriber channel making six figures, is a refreshing way to look at success. I also liked the reminder that unsolicited advice and external noise can be a huge distraction. It’s easy to lose sight of your original goals when trying to please everyone or follow trends. Staying focused and building content around a clear vision is the key to avoiding burnout and staying motivated. Overall, this was a great reality check for anyone thinking about starting a channel. The emphasis on mindset and treating KZbin as part of a bigger picture, not just a numbers game, is something more people need to hear.
@KevinChee22 күн бұрын
If you ask me, unsolicited advice is probably the one that affects channels. I've tried several times listening to those advice, after all, we should always listen right? But 9 times out of 10 it doesn't work out and I am better off following my own instinct built on experience. The 2nd toughest one to follow is mindset. We have to constantly go against the numbers thrown at us by KZbin analytics and those comments and trolls trying to bring our focus back to numbers as well. I've built up my mindset over the years but for those starting out, it can be daunting.

More views = more revenue = more sponsors. With the income, you can reinvest into your channel and potentially buy time to create more videos to get more views. It is a cycle. Subs though, seems like a way to validate our success but the number of subs we have doesn't translate to the views we will get, a mistake most new YT channels make.

@KevinChee5 ай бұрын
It is easy to assume 150K means success but many big channels out there are not sustainable due to insufficient revenue. Maintaining a channel takes time and effort, something I would say many take for granted. We all may have good intention when creating our videos to help people for free but I find free content can be detrimental to our channel. A minority of them appreciates the free content but a majority of those just want free content because it is free and can get all fired up when we try to sell something (which is essential to support ourselves). I guess my point in this video is, finding the audience who are supportive in every aspect (growth, finance, experience) is essential. You can build a community who just wants free stuff, and that's good to grow your channel, but it is not a sustainable business model. It is not easy to walk away from the effort you put in in the last 5.5 years and I respect you for that, for your courage and decision. All the best!

The one thing that I have not found, is truth, honesty and integrity. That is what my KZbin is about. How bad it was and the struggle. Its raw and real. No bouncing images or voice overs, intro music, lol yet, I want intro music haha. This video was on my feed and I can say from long hours of searching, this is by far the best advice I have seen. Its real, and genuine to me. Also, I love all the comments. I read them while listening to the KZbin. If I make it and have more subs and it launches, I will dentate some of the earnings to help others if possible. It will prob never be my real job, I just enjoy talking and helping others. I hope some will learn from my mistakes. Keep your head up everybody and I hope we can have a solid community of newbies to help each other out.

Thanks. Great to know that this video appeared on your search. I think there are a lot of videos out there similar to mine but KZbin just have a hard time pushing it to the right audience (probably still learning). Having said that, to have the right thumbnail and title is important as well. The right video may never reach the right audience if they don't click so everything kinda goes together. It is hard, we're told to focus on creating great content but without learning the marketing bits, we still wouldn't get the views.

It depends on your country and niche. English speaking countries are the highest paying - USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Finance, Money, Health, Real Estate are some of the highest paying niches.

That's the whole reason not to rely on just making money from views and KZbin Ads. Diversify to gain control over the revenue I would say.

I hear agree what you are saying. I have been on youtube for 18 years. I just post videos for fun. I am monetized but it isn't my day job. I believe that if you make videos for yourself first and then by chance someone else also likes it, that is beautiful.

it is beautiful indeed

Great advice. I started a channel because friends and family wanted to follow along in what i do. I had no experience in filmimg and its quite a learning curve but it turns out i highly enjoy it and loving the progress ive made. Its definitely not easy but worth it.

Keep it up. It takes time but do work within your own capabilities and time.

Thank you so much 🙏 Finally an honest video about YT. I literally hate those "changed life" clickbaiters who live in some bubble of positivity. Don't start YT is the only true recommendation I would give to anyone. It's so random and mentally devastating that it's really not worth it.

The "changed life' topic is trending like crazy so everyone jumps on board. I tried jumping onboard too and I am not ashamed to admit that lol.. Having said that, I've been doing honest videos for years but YT just doesn't seem to like pushing contents like this. Ah well...

@@KevinChee Yeah, definitely. YT doesn't reward honesty, because people clicking on controversy, clickbaits and scammers.

Although I can't stop looking at the analytics, I keep in mind that I am here to enjoy and learn as much as getting monitized and the better I am at applying the learning the better my channel will do! New creators🎉 Good luck!!❤

Thanks. I don't think I can take another round of 'this video will explode your channel' situation. I would prefer higher than average views per video launch. That's the best.

I have watched A LOT of videos about starting my channel. This was by far the best advice. Thank you for your honesty.

Welcome. Glad my video made it to you somehow. I'm no KZbin guru however I am interested in turning content creation/influencer into a viable business. Not gonna be easy as you can see in the journey of my videos but it will feel completely different once I reach there.
