I love how people comment so easily about how they think its a mistake or how they would have gone back to residency part time......until you're going through it yourself you will never know the pain and strength it takes to move forward in a direction you never planned for. Leaving something after a lifetime of sacrifice to do the thing you believe you're meant to be doing is no easy. I left my surgical residency in my 30s after it suddenly hit me during 48hr oncall that my body, mind, relationships was suffering and I chose to prioritise my life over my career...so yes everyone has a different path and nothing is ever set in stone. KEVIN is awesome for being innovative and thinking outside the box which surgical training doesn't allow for....all will be great🙏💕

I just saw your "why I quit plastic surgery residency" video, and I was just so happy to see you move with the decision that felt truest to you. I too have managed entrepreneurial projects during my medical school and for the past 2 years, I have been confused about the choice and the decision to make because I too want to make the biggest possible impact I can with my time and effort, so entrepreneurship feels like the road. I m also an OB/GYN resident so there is no flexibility there as well. To summarize, I feel heard and seen by your video and your experience, and I am absolutely rooting for you and for your mission of improving medical students/residents mental health.

You said you miss some aspects of being a plastic surgeon. Did you ever think of finishing your education and working part time or only working on cases that interest you as a plastic surgeon now that you don’t need to rely on it’s income because of your other endeavors?
@kevinjubbalmd3 жыл бұрын
6 years of residency is a long time. It's not feasible to be both a proficient and excellent plastic surgeon while also building multiple businesses. MSI and Memm take a lot of time every week. I could have done PRS residency, but the opportunity cost and capping my business growth wasn't something that aligned with my long term vision
@vans4lyf20133 жыл бұрын
@@kevinjubbalmd With that said, which specialties do you think are conducive to running a business at the same time? The only ones I can think of are derm, pmr and psych due to the relatively low hours during and after residency. Any others? I think rads and path would be possible too but I prefer to see patients.

Do you find that just specializing in microsurgery or hand surgery would have brought in enough income or do a lot of plastic surgeons with these specialties also do cosmetic procedures to maximize their income? I guess I'm asking if once a plastic surgeon subspecializes do they only stick to that one thing or do they also do things general plastic surgeons would do.

I love what i've seen of plastics but the lifestyle in training is soul sucking and I have so many other interests that are like a full time job themselves e.g. data science. Do you think I can get the same satisfaction of creative operations in something like mohs/ dermatological surgery? I personally don't like super long operations anyway but I like creative surgeries with really cool before and after reconstructions.
@cody5559032 жыл бұрын
Only did 2 weeks of derm and a few days of mohs, but its not that creative lol just excise a little bit more and take it back to the microscope and repeat.

Good question. I think with a larger loan burden it would have made the decision harder. I would have likely stayed a bit longer, continued to build the YT channel and use that revenue to pay off more of my loans, and then left maybe a year or so later.
