I’d love a whole video that’s just you ranting and reminiscing about the olden days of web development back when everything was clunky and awkward. Then you could show the modern day solutions and how they make it so much easier. You could tell us all how you used to walk uphill through the snow to center a div.

haha, the good old days. I remember back in the mid 90s when it would take like a week before your domain name propagated. It was impossible to explain to customers what was happening. Originally I would share the IP address with them so they could check the website while we were waiting for the domain name to propagate. But then I had a client who used print advertising and used the IP address MONTHS after the domain name had actually propagated.. so I stopped giving out the IP addresses.

I'm assuming you can turn the CI/CD off? If I have v1.0 of a site deployed and I'm working on v1.1, I don't commit everything for v1.1 in one git push, and I don't want my work-in-progress going live until I say so.

It's really important not to just watch tutorials, but to build along with them. Understanding something is very different from being able to do something. You might know the steps to ride a unicycle, but of you tried to get on, you fall right away. Learning anything else is the same, just less painful 😅. Start small, and if you do follow a tutorial, then built the same thing without it. See if you can, or of you get stuck. And practice, practice, practice. It takes a long time to get there 🙂

Why use netlify when you can directly host from your github repo, usung github pages? What is the benefit?
@TomBellenger3 жыл бұрын

@ADesignerWhoCodes3 жыл бұрын
Can't turn private repos into GitHub pages. Netlify is great for when you want your repo private but your site public. And if you are using React / Gatsby / Next JS, you would have to build, upload then deploy. Netlify does the build for you.
@KevinPowell3 жыл бұрын
Netlify does more that GitHub pages, and I find the process easier as well. If it's just static HTML/CSS/JS then it's not a big difference, but as soon as there is a build process involved, Netlify takes the cake :)

Gosh, should have used this instead of heroku. The free server of heroku automatically shuts down if it hasn't been used for half an hour, does this same situation happens to netlify, too?
@blessedzulu3 жыл бұрын
No. Not at all. Netlify doesn't have this limitation.

Netlify never shuts down, but, unlike Heroku, it is for static sites only. If you want to host something Node based you may like Vercel
@WeberChang-i7c3 жыл бұрын
@@ПавелЖуравлев-к8ш my website is quite basic for the moment. Only a few HTML, CSS files, and a Python flask server. Still considering whether change it onto Netlify or not since that means I have to dump the flask server (or use frozen), and the upgradability will kinda be limited. But my website will be faster at loading. Such a tough choice.
