Pro Tip: NEVER USE THE DELETE KEY on the edit page. If you want to remove a clip, select it and hit the backspace key. Then, if you want to remove the gap as well, select the gap between clips and hit the backspace key again. I know this sounds like more work, but believe me, this will save you heart ache. The delete key does something somewhat unusual in Davinci Resolve; particularly if you are working in multiple layers. When you delete a clip off the timeline it also removes the gap without proper respect to the various layers of all the clips to the right. What that means is if you have nearly finished a project and then go back to remove 1 clip from the middle, using delete can screw up ever edit to the right of that on the timeline. If you insist on trying it, experiment carefully and be prepared to hit undo (Ctrl-Z) if you are not happy with the outcome. It may be that there is some special case that this IS what you wanted to do. But I found repeatedly that DELETE caused nothing but trouble. I have stopped using it entirely. Since I don't use the cut page at all, I am not sure how DELETE responds on that page. I am only saying this regarding the edit page.

This is exactly how you teach a total beginner. I often get overwhelmed with confusion and questions while listening to tutorials, he stops and confronts almost all of the questions that popped in my head while the expert ist explaining away. brilliant

Possibly the best-done beginner tutorial video on any topic ever? Genuinely, this an example of how to be a great teacher. Kevin's commitment to asking questions from a total beginner's perspective and Casey's patient, useful answers, along with their considering the needs and problems that various users might run into(like when using an older computer), make for such a helpful and also very calm and fun viewing experience.

I've been using Blender Video Editing for about a year now. It's great and I enjoy it but I've been looking for something else than can be a little easier when video editing and I'm just so impressed by the functionality of DaVinci Resolve. Great tutorial, can't wait to applying what I've learned so far!

Same here... Editing my latest video in Blender was such a pain... full of bugs and weird stuff that I just wanted to go for the best program out there, and I am not disappointed.

Absolutely love that Kevin asked all the same questions I'd be ready to ask if I was being taught live! It's so great to find any kind of tech video aimed at someone with zero preexisting knowledge on the topic. Super excited to make my first video this week!

I went from never editing a video to creating a short within roughly two hours thanks to this video. Absolutely INCREDIBLE tutorial. My only struggle has been editing large portions on my timeline simply to get clips then having to cut out the leftover, but I'm sure with time I'll have a better process! Thanks again!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've decided to do video editing to help my wife publish content about the crafts she makes, and this tutorial nailed what I needed to learn. Da Vinci Resolve is ALREADY highly recommended by two channels I follow on youtube, Stephen Georg (stephenplays, stephenvlog) and Corridor Digital (Corridor and Corridor Crew), and I found YOUR channel when I was learning with the basic editor on Windows 11. Seeing this tutorial was really, really helpful, it was very nice and concise about all the necessary details for beginners, while providing enough leeway to get creative. I love the back and forth, humor, and the Q&As that were brought up. Again, THANK YOU.

This made my switch from Hitfilm really comfy. Glad to see that a lot of what you've learned from previous media editors can be applied in a lot of instances. It's already been said but the two person format is great as well. Having one person asking questions from the perspective of a complete novice is handy and worth the extra effort.

I've seen tons of videos for various non-linear editors. I used Premiere Pro for over 20 years and gave up on Adobe when they went to that subscriber model. So it was with some joy I found DaVinci and while playing around with it, realized that despite some similarities with PP, there are lots of differences. So more joy when I found this turorial. It is absolutely perfect in every way. The questions asked by the "beginner" and the answers by the expert are just right on. I've taken 50+ courses in my life (in classrooms mostly) and I always had questions when something was glossed over. But not here. As I'm thinking of a question, it gets asked, then answered. The show 'n Tell is stunningly clear: big mouse indicator, nice slow zoom in to a high res display of the daVinci screen. I've seen some where they show just the lores screen with small regular mouse arrow that is impossible to follow and labels impossible to read. You guys have set the bar for proper method of doing a tutorial. I say this as a former instructor in Industrial Instrumentation and Controls, and working and teaching in the industry for 30 years. Good work. I subscribed!

Like most software there is a learning curve but DaVinci is very intuitive. I got the basics just from past knowledge of DAW,s and I made a few test movies without too much problem. This is great to move forward onto more complex parts.

The analogies are amazing, helped a lot with comprehending the various concepts. I wish more people would utilize analogies to bridge the gap between well-known concepts, such as ingredients to a complete dish, vs new concepts, individual clips to a timeline

Great job and perfect training ... it made it super easy for me. I was able to put together a 6 min. slide show in just a couple of hours. It took some time to figure out a few things but my prior experience with other similar tools over the years kind of gave me the background to jump right in. Its very quick and I had no hickup. Which its been for me an eternal issue with past programs crashing. Thanks again.

Thanks Kevin and Casey. This is a very good start for a guy like me who is just relearning all this at the age of 63. l have always believed that you are never too old to learn and the only limits to what you learn are the limits you put upon yourself. Will be looking in on you guys both for more information on DaVinci Resolve. Thank you both again for this production.

You may never see this comment..but thank you so much for making sure everyone understood before going into the next step... Also, thank you for making sure we had alternative methods to accomplish the same thing..(hence..drag and drop media...or.. what is media..things many pros take for granted that others know) You made sure we were fed nutritional baby food...and before it ended, we grew teeth and learned to chew). Thanks so much to the two of you! I'm subscribing to both of you!💪🏿💪🏿
