In this comparison video, find out whether Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Cisco Webex has the best audio and video. I compare the audio and the video across all of these web conferencing providers and crown the best one at the end. Needless to say, it's definitely not what I expected.

My tuppence: Audio is more important than video, Zoom audio was utterly outstanding. Overall I would say (1) Zoom, (2) Teams, (3) Webex. I thought Webex audio was terrible, had a processing 'warble' to it, very grating. Which one would I pick? Teams, everyday and twice on Sunday. Far, far more collaborative features such as instant chat, threaded posts, files, SharePoint integration, persistent meeting components e.g whiteboard etc, integrated approvals, apps and so on and so on... Teams is just on a different level.

Agree with your comments overall. Generally speaking, the best tool depends on what a person is using it for (work, school, large or small group, etc). For collaborating in the work environment, I think Teams is best. If someone is just listening and watching content being shared by others, I would go with Zoom as well. As another commenter stated, Webex is ok but seems antiquated with its user interfaces and I've been disappointed several times by their ability to resolve technical issues.

I appreciate the comparison and won't argue the result. Something that I appreciate about Zoom calls is that it's the smoothest when multiple persons are talking at the same time. I find that Teams and Webex give priority to the strongest bandwidth while I can hear the multiple voices with Zoom.

Great breakdown, thanks for the comparison. It's funny how people can hear people differently, though. After a couple of listens of the clips for the final verdict, I thought that the Teams audio sounded much better than the WebEx. I do have some hearing loss in the upper registers, so that may somehow be affecting my perception of it since you said Teams sounded "tinny", but I guess it is a little subjective.

Zoom has the best audio. Teams has the best video, but they are sacrificing frame rate for resolution. You can clearly see Teams running at a lower frame rate, but higher resolution. Zoom’s frame rate is smoother and more consistent, but the resolution is obviously lower. (And thank you for sharing this comparison!)

Great comparison video Kevin. I would like to see a comparison of other features of these 3, like security, call stability, support tools (like chat, slide sharing, whiteboards, etc), and screen usage (how well the app uses your screen for video and the aforementioned support tools. That last one may be more subjective, but at least comparing it would help viewers of your channel make their own decision. Thanks Kevin.

Very well done for a short test. I think the user should be able to adjust if the conferencing software should prefer better audio or better video quality. It‘s often interresting what happens if there is (suddenly) small bandwith or poor line quality. The audio should never be interrupted, but the video can „suffer“. My personal favorite for poor bandwith is Whatsapp. For excellent video quality I like facetime 😊

Great videos, Kevin. Do you know of any open source or free Call Center like software/apps out there? I work for an organization that puts on big multi classroom style conventions at hotels and we normally have a physical helpdesk set up for questions throughout the convention. We're developing some risk mitigation strategies as we're getting closer to resuming these conventions again. It would be nice if we were able to use some basic software or an app that would allow us to support the convention goers telephonically, rather than have people sitting at a table talking face to face with folks. I was thinking about just setting up a TEAMS meeting with a phone number assigned and just leaving that active all day. Anyway, just curious if you knew of anything like that. I love all your videos, they are so helpful and I send people to your channel all the time. Keep up the great work!

A great topic and well done video. Although I'd disagree as per the 2nd and 3rd place in the audio testing. I'd rank them so: 1. Definitely ZOOM has the closest to natural sound 2. TEAMS sounds processed and not natural but still very clear 3. WEBEX has significant pitches which increase its loudness, but is very much like speaking through a tin box with sub echos. Again that's my personal opinion and I might be totally wrong 🤷‍♀️

Hi Kevin. Any chance you can create one of these fantastic comparison videos for presenting/teaching in these three options? It's one thing to meet, but the requirements for interactive training sessions go beyond these features. The breakouts, the polling technologies, the ease of toggling a share between powerpoint, your browser, a video player, etc. Also - any chance you can do a video using Mac with these solutions vs just PC? There are some differences.

I would suggest a different category of comparison - ease of use. Zoom skyrocketed in use since last March because it is so darn easy for a n00b to start using. It's also easy to share a meeting with the encoded URL. So before you declare "THE BEST" please revisit this and add how easy it is to use in your consideration.

Quite! Also many participants, as that will "turn on" (auto) / have to use compression, and then we'll see how good an algorithm each have for that challenge. BTW I like a little audio compression - it's like radios of old when equipment wasn't that good and you needed to get the _info_ through, i.e. the words. Just sounding "nice" is a … nicety, for social, but not necessarily the best for getting messages across.

Hope someone didn't already mention this, but a test with a LOT of connections - like 300+ is needed to make a good judgement. At the company I worked for we had been using Skype, but large conference calls with over 250 people were unreliable without video and only one person presenting. We moved to Zoom and those large meetings became flawless. I'll admit we also used Teams, but I wasn't on any calls with more than 50 people although it certainly performed better than Skype. I know Zoom is popular and probably not typically used with more than 20 people, but one would certainly want to know that before deciding on a product. One other thing. I have no large meeting experience with WebEx, but have used it probably since it came out. These days it feels old in terms of its interface and its installation and interaction with the computer. Teams isn't as bad, but you know the Skype engine has to be underlying there. Not only was I impressed with Zoom at work, but now using it personally I find it smoother, and it feels fresher than the other two products. I have to say their public relations is pretty smart too allowing unlimited calls during the Holidays. Have to admit I'm a big fan of Zoom.

Very helpful, especially in giving separate ratings for video and audio. Zoom has a large share in the public's eye, and I think that is warranted. First, it can be used for free with the only restriction being the length of a meeting. Second, it seemed to come out just when something like that was needed by the general public, i.e. outside of the corporate boardroom. And third, the company has scrambled to address concerns with numerous updates, especially regarding security issues. Online meeting functionality is only part of what the other companies offer, so they may be a bit less responsive to comments from a non corporate audience. Most of the groups we meet with (a choir, two book clubs, three online open mics, and my own song circle) will likely stay with zoom because of the disruption of switching for all participants, and the small differences in quality as Kevin mentions. In the meetings I attend, the sound quality is the most critical. It would be useless to see other participants rendered perfectly if it was difficult to understand what they were saying. Same thing, but even more so, for the musical activities.

As a meeting participant (vs. presenter), audio quality is most important to me -- especially since most presentations don't have captions enabled. Unfortunately, most people don't speak as clearly as you do, Kevin. Add the variable of someone speaking rapidly with an accent I am unaccustomed to, and comprehension becomes a huge challenge. In addition, when there's an image on the screen, and the narration is off-camera (where I can't even attempt to read lips), the audio becomes more important than video. In the sample provided here, Zoom sounded best to me, followed by Teams, and then Webex. I'm listening on a Mac.

I use Teams, because I'm in it all day, and it's more convenient that jumping back and forth between systems. Also, with Zoom I'm having to click links that open a tab in the browsers that then opens Zoom, or copy and paste a number into Zoom if the meeting doesn't have a passcode. Not the situation with Teams. I just click join when the reminder pops up and it opens the meeting in Teams. Also, really easy to just call someone as we are sending chat messages and realize we should figure something out in a call. Just click the call button that's already in our chat. Also, Teams has built in cc/transcription (honestly I don't know the difference) and "together mode" is flippin awesome. I pretty much never use a background image, but I often use background blur, which Zoom surprisingly doesn't have. Zoom has way more controls, which is awesome, and I'm jealous....but it's just not as integrated as Teams.

Hi Kevin. Thanks for your content. In your 3 way contest you did not include Skype (but I think Teams IS Skype. is it not?). The critical test is USEABILITY and here Zoom must score above the others. I haven’t come across WebEx in Europe ah all. But Zoom and Teams : for straight up video conferencing Zoom wins hands down. I have recently been running both with a team of 15 independent home-based freelancers of mixed IT skills. After six weeks we all concluded that Teams was far too complicated for the average user and we decided to hold all team meetings using Zoom. Previously we had held 1 or 2 meetings per day on Zoom (including a customer facing webinar) and two management meetings per day on Teams. Drop off rates on the Teams meetings clearly demonstrated that Teams was unnecessarily complex

For me, Teams had a crisper look on the text in the video but overall, not as feature as the others. Also agree about the sound in Teams. WebEx is the best overall despite the video but it gives the user/business the most flexibility in what it may want to deliver.

There's so many factors to consider here. Was Teams making a point-to-point link or was it routing via the Teams media server? Was Teams able to use the UDP protocol for realtime audio/video. Also the Teams adaptive system is quick to reduce bandwidth but slowly builds up if the network has the bandwidth? Comparing against two systems where you've forced 'music mode' to be on isn't a comparable test.

Appreciate the completely unbiased analysis here but I think your interpretation of "original audio" for Zoom or "music mode" for Webex is incorrect. What those modes do is pass the raw audio, untreated by the conferencing client. That may not always be the "best," especially for users who are not acoustically treated spaces.

Interesting but you can't ignore comparative costs and how good are they when you have a lossy WiFi or internet connection. Also how easy to use? Not every user is an IT geek. Great starting point though.

Hmm. Not sure about Webex for the 1st place. Maybe was my speakers but it sounded very metallic to me. I would say we have a tie between Teams and Zoom.

I have to say that I was surprised by the audio verdict as well. That said, if the audio were as good in our meetings as in this competition life would be so much better. People are not using real mics, and it’s just painful.

For internal uses such as inside an organisation I would prefer Microsoft Teams. Easier for me to do presentation and the video and audio quality was great. Probably for family gathering we will use Zoom which is more accessible.

IMO: I from Indonesia with high speed internet in brochure but low speed in actual, I lots join online meeting using zoom, Google meet, but I choose Teams for best online meeting. With internet speed like I mentioned before, Teams has excelent audio when meeting, I feel no lagging when meeting, and I like talking with a person in front of me.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I think that this comparison with this "high-quality" equipment is not representative. If you have to deal with many customers or colleagues every day, the best you will be confronted with, is a built-in Camera and a 30$ USB Headset. With this keeping in mind, Teams probably does the best job in audio and video quality. I'm also a guest in weekly WebEX Calls and this performs way worse then Teams, especially in stability.

For me, Webex is the best when I'm training. Great registration, reporting, Super easy to share the recording - a link anyone can click. For day to day status or check in calls. Teams is quickest.

Good video, but I think Webex has the best audio. In my experience I have had the best results with Webex. A couple of other tests you could do are: Test quality using Webex Video Endpoints vs Zoom and MS Teams capable endpoints and Endpoints vs PC for quality tests. Test ease of use/usability. The biggest issue I see for usability is switching devices. Going from PC to Mobile and Mobile to PC. Good to compare switching between PC and Mobile. I am not going to name the vendors, but one is very easy to switch and another is difficult to switch, the third is somewhere in the middle. Perhaps even compare switching PC to Video Endpoint and back. Compare audio and video quality over iPhone and android. I realize that some of these are not easy to setup, but it would be a good comparison

This is a different subject matter but your assistance will be greatly appreciated. I know how to set the scroll area so I won't fly down to row 1245. How do I save these changes. Whenever I close the workbook, the scroll range is deleted. I tried saving it as a excel macro enabled workbook but that did not work either. Thanks

I don’t get too hung-up on audio quality as all three are acceptable. The one feature that you didn’t point out is Zoom and Teams require the Presenter to enable the sharing of audio from the computer presenting. We did two video presentations using Zoom; one at a govt facility and one at a private company, and neither of those places were familiar with the audio setting required to share the audio of a video. We fell flat on our faces. Zoom allows this but the setting is a bit obscure. Teams allows it as well and makes it a little more obvious that you have the option to share your audio from a video presentation. I haven’t tried Webex. Lastly, we’re a Microsoft shop, meaning we’re totally centric on Microsoft products. Using Teams just makes sense as it integrates with their suite of Office products plus it’s free and free is good. I imagine Zoom and WebEx provide a plug-in for this but I’ve never used or tested them. I will agree, the video quality of Teams in best. If I had one critique of Teams, is it’s a bit clumsy to figure out how to Start a video conference all. There’s room for improvement there.

Great video Kevin! And I disagree I felt that teams sounded better and it's not based on the criteria you heard. Maybe my old age is showing here because it's a well-known fact that the younger you are the better you hear. But, I just don't experience much Network Jitter when our company is on teams as opposed to WebEx. We have WebEx and I have a hard time hearing people when we are on large conferences. My daughter uses zoom and I don't have a real good feel for that product so I really can't comment on it but that's what they use in the school district.

Kevin, I think Teams doesn't have that much compressed sound. In my thoughts, I'd like you to trust who I think is the best. Unfortunately, Cisco is the worst for video on my thoughts because it simply goes to my Iriun webcam instead of integrated good webcam or OBS virtual camera. Mum's phone doesn't prefer Iriun, my cell phone doesn't have space at all.

Teams is the best in both legendary and audio. It isn't have a music mode but the secondary ringer helps me if Teams not bounces all the sound coming up for meetings as comfortable noticed rich. Such, I think Zoom is second. Just like you said in Cisco, it's not quite as good-it have still some compressing in the audio. Richest in the video is Zoom, second is Teams. The beginner or the loser of all the competition is Cisco. Cisco is third on both video and audio. The weakest is it. The quality overall didn't sounds as good. Cisco is extra compressed in audio. The well one is Zoom but I will go with the legendary as Microsoft Teams across all the competitors.
