So I just roughly totalled up the cost of the Ryft and all the current parts Kev has fitted to it (from my understanding) The total comes to at least $1,732, this is of course not including the previous upgrades Kev has fitted and broken/removed over time. So we're easily looking at over $2k to get it to this point. It's depressing thinking about it really, to any sane person this is lunacy, but we all know Kev is not sane which is why this monstrosity exists. You could easily afford a fully kitted out X-maxx and still have some change left over. All in the name of entertainment and "science" :D you nutter Kev. Love your content :)

I built mine as soon as the Ryft kit came out, with all the Treal upgrades. Installed a Hobbywing XR8 Plus 2250kv motor & ESC combo and run it on 6S (2 x Gens Ace 3S 4300mah LiPo). I made almost the exact same modifications that Kev did to get the 1/8 scale motor to fit. 2nd gear on 6S is completely insane. Totally worth it :)

I don't have one, but someone in my club does. I have had a vaterra twin hammers for ~5 years now, which is a very similar rig. In my opinion, horizon really screwed up with this truck, they were selling a much better RTR truck years ago with the twin hammers that didn't need this level of modification just to be runnable. That being said, the combo crawler/basher is seriously fun to drive. They definitely aren't the best at anything, you can easily get better performance with 2 separate trucks, but having 1 truck that does both reasonably well is tons of fun to take out hiking. I don't know if it's necessary to go quite as ham as kevin did, but the guy in my club only ran his on the stock motor once before upgrading to brushless. I don't remember what he is running, but he had the exact same problem with cogging and ditched the stock motor right away.

If you use the aux wire and program full drag brake in low gear. It will crawl heaps better. Low end resolution is goes up with more drag brake in the castle esc's

A friend of mine put a huge brushless motor in his home made rock crawler back before there were crawler kits. I literally fell down laughing and almost wet myself. It could flip itself over with even moving forward. Left ruts in our track. It was insane! Good times.

So it's good for nothing ultimately. Rock bouncing is just uncontrolled crawling . I can see this RC car being discontinued soon. Who wants to replace practically everything to have a functioning RC car ? Yes upgrades are a great part of the hobby but for a rig of this price I expect better out of the box. In my eyes it's practically useless apart from watching it writhe about uncontrollably off every jump.

Cool. I shimmed up my Castle 2400KV using SCX24 spacers from an axle widening kit. The parts nobody uses because you replace them with brass. No cutting required.
