Rainy Autumn Walk in ENGLAND: Exploring a 1000-Year-Old COTSWOLDS Village

Early morning autumn walk through Ampney Crucis, a historic village in the Cotswolds, England about 100 miles from London. Known as “Omenie” in 1086, this village is over 100 year old and has evolved over centuries, even housing Roman artifacts like urns and coins now in Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum. We will wander past listed buildings and learn of Ampney Crucis’s unique cultural footprint, including its appearance in “The English Assassin.” Our walk concludes at the Norman-founded church, restored in 1870, which still holds Saxon and Victorian elements-an architectural gem.

This video brought back a lot of very pleasant memories. I spent 3 years while in the USAF in Oxfordshire, England in the village of Launton. Sharpes Cottage was the name of my home. It looked so much like this lovely little place. Why is it that after you leave someplace you realize that you should never should have left! 0:14 That river reminds me of the Carrowbeg River in Westport, County Mayo in Ireland. We kids called it the Mall, with the 'a' sounding like hat. The Mal. We skipped rocks, made rock bridges across it (it was very shallow there). The river had eels. I have many fond memories of that river. It became a part of my dream geography for decades after I left there at 6 years old. That river in my dreams dried up about 12 years ago. I was and still am sad that it's gone.

Grey skies and rain. Typical depressing day in England. Makes me sad knowing that 99% of the population could not afford one of these million pound homes. And they’re not even that big and the lots are so small. Lucky for me I bought a house in the U.S. back in the 90’s when housing was within reach, even for the lower middle class. I was very lucky to find a home built in the 40’s that is made out of limestone instead of toothpicks like modern U.S. homes. Big wooded lot within the city county. I couldn’t afford my own home if I had to buy it today.

So beautiful! Every view is a painting. Sure to lower anyone's blood pressure without meds. As an American it's hard to fathom an area such as this continually inhabited for centuries, with many of the same buildings, and will likely be there another 500 years at least. You can't do a walking video like tbat in America, well you can but no one will watch.

Some truly breathtaking home exteriors. I admire the English tradition of beautifying their properties in typically understated fashion. I bet this area is stunning on a sunny summer day. As lovely as this place is, the atmosphere on this day was somewhat dreary and lifeless to the point of being almost a bit creepy. I keep expecting to see approaching zombies around each corner 😆
