With water ingress. Always best to remove the seats and carpet. The 2" of sound proofing below the carpet will hold the water due to it being a sponge. The smell of damp will be evident in the warmer months otherwise not when washed and dried. The airbag pretensioner wiring is below the carpet and is likely to corrode also this is based on 28 years of working in dealerships and 10 years with Renault.

Used to do this years ago as a job we didnt have power drill attachments back then, had to scrub all that with a scouring pad. Interior didnt look too bad to start with all things considered, knew it would come up well. We used to use an anti bac fabric freshener after we washed and left it to dry out a bit for cars like this. Spray whole interior then vac again and dry. Paint work didnt need to much done to it either, overall not to bad a job to do, the black stuff that was left on the car after the wash is road tar, plenty of products to take it off on the market but a wee bit of petrol watered down a bit does the same job sprayed on before the tfr.

The only issue is that the thick sound deadening under the carpet will be soaked and as such the carpet will never dry and the inside will condensate very badly. The whole carpet needs to come out. You will probably suck gallons of water out of the deadening.
@station2403 жыл бұрын
Carpet and seats need to come out anyway, to clean the mold out of the places covered by plastic trim or the seats themselves. Still at least now it's not so nasty as to make taking the interior apart a biohazard job. Perhaps the new owner plans to replace the carpet and seats anyway.

Totally agree - the sound deadening is still going to be absolutely sopping. The interior should have been stripped so it could be dried properly. But hey, it's Kev's car, not mine and I'm not the poor sod buying it.
@midlam993 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsanderson6968 Yeah, sadly that will be wet for many months if not years. Stripping is a pain but sometimes necessary.
@KevTee3 жыл бұрын
Stripping the interior out was part of the plan, sadly the Clio seats being bolted through the floor with access to the bolts from under the car, the bolts were solid and at risk of snapping the studs which would of been disastrous. The next best thing was to run an industrial dehumidifier for a few days which extracted a further 8 liters of water, I can assure you the interior is dry 👍

Kev, I know your enjoying yourself (and I enjoy your videos) but may I add some help ? Take out the seats, remove the carpets AND the underlay, it will never dry otherwise! car floors have ribs in them where water collects ! When taking seats out you will see wires going to seats, these are for the airbag/s disconnect carefully and do not have ignition on all the time they're out, as the car will see this as a fault and put airbag light on . You may unfortunately find the reason why it was scrapped, it was burning oil?, put some oil in it, take it to 2500 rpm see if it smokes, might save you time and trouble and don't forget to sorn it, but mainly HAVE FUN !

If you have a dehumidifier, stand it in the boot fora few days just to remove the last of the damp. Also, unless you have already done it, do a full fluids and filter change and check the timing belt as Renault's have a habit of eating them.

Great to see the difference in it, fantastic job. As others have already mentioned, would be good to know what you’re doing and what kit and products you were using at each stage. I have to confess I skipped the it where you did the back seats and front passenger seat cleaning as I’d already seen how you did it (back seat was good for comparison between the clean and not so clean!). Next video maybe a driving comfort comparison to that other Renault you drive 🤣 A bigger project with a few videos showing the progress you’re making would be good to see next, assuming you can find a good source for a donor vehicle....

A very Happy New Year Kev. That was a great transformation, must agree that I would have removed the seats, to make both seat cleaning and carpets easier. It would have been interesting to see what it would take to get that MOT'd. I would like to see a long term project, from start too back on the road. I bet that was three cold, wet days Mate, plus points for persevering. Thanks for all the videos you post, I enjoy them.
@alanbartlett95233 жыл бұрын
Probably best to remove the seats and the carpet. The sound deadening under the carpet takes ages to dry out. If it is left there will always be that nasty musty smell in there. When we have cars in with water leaks the carpets are the first to come out, hung up to dry in the paint oven.
