They are all dire wolves. And based on the colors of their coat and damage type, there are variants. Here's the list from the wiki: The Direwolf can spawn as one of 8* variants, those variants are: •Normal •Leader - Scar on one of its eyes with mangy fur •Red Fang - Red fur, attacks impart fire damage •Green Fang - Green fur, attacks impart wind damage •Blue Fang - Blue fur, attacks impart water damage •Brown Fang - Light Brown / Yellow fur, attacks impart wind damage •Purple Fang - Purple fur, attacks impart space damage •Black Fang - Black fur, attacks impart magic damage •Tempest Wolf - Star shaped mark on forehead, as well as a white mane *The "Leader" variant can be stacked on any other non-normal variant. For these variants, the wolf gains a scar over its right eye, but it's coat remains the same.

pretty sure if you get a star wolf variant you can get Black lightning off of him.

I wasn't sure. In the last verion of the game you could get black lightning and wind manipulation, so wasn't sure what all the new version could give.
