Toilet rolls for brush storage? You're a genius, Kevy! It will keep knots from looking like tired wigs. It's a hack everyone will appreciate. Thanks mate! Bring on Part 4!!! I'm ready.

I am having to try an figure out how to store some of the collections that I am gathering. Right now I am working on shavettes. I use a stand for test tubes for my DE safety razors but it does work for shavettes. I'm going to try plastic travel toothbrush cases and then store those in those pocket things that hang behind doors. I have been sending for quite a few things for my shave den.

A boy with his toys is a beautiful thing.. :D If you ever have the chance to add a Soviet Era Bakelite DE razor to your collection; I highly recommend doing so. They are physically beautiful and shave like a dream. I guarantee if you add one to your collection; you will not regret it. Thanks for the peep show. I am "stoked"( I've been wanting to say that for the longest time XD) to see other videos in this series.

Here is a link. I have seen others of exactly the same brand/model on Ebay. Some had a a Bakelite case instead of transparent plastic. I have also seen Black and Red versions with slightly modified body styles. www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Russian-Safety-Razor-Bakelite-1960s-bonus/252355808013?_trksid=p2047675.c100012.m1985&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D36016%26meid%3Dc7ce94d38baa480fbc57d7e40adefb3a%26pid%3D100012%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D331839328716

Hi Kevy! An excellent video again. Regarding the Phoenix Double Open Comb razor in my opinion it is a VERY mild tool. You classified it as between mild an aggressive. - I'm looking forward to another great video from Kevy Shaves 😊 Have a nice day!

woohog1 Thanks. I wouldn't say I was that experienced, I'm always learning and trying to improve with every shave. Great to hear we have some of the same razors. As for a slant, I would recommend either the Merkur 37C or the Razorock German slant both very similar razors. Cheers. Kevy 😀

Sorry, a bit late in the day (only a year after! :) ), I think the bloke on the menrock packaging is unshaved *precisely* because a menrock straight razor was all he had to shave with. Which is in line with how much you've yourself used the menrock. It all makes sense...you've just got to read the signs :)

Very much enjoyed this video, Kevy, as I always do yours. A bit of down the old memory lane, no? But what happened to the “1912” single edge? Hope you didn’t ditch it! Also, it seems to me that the distinction between “aggressive” and “mild” razors or blades is something of a misnomer-which for me has more to do with prep, soap, and technique. Don’t forget to decide whether to shake or stir the Thayer’s witch hazel, with olive or onion! Thanks for another enjoyable video and cheers!
@kevyshaves4109
@kevyshaves4109 8 жыл бұрын
Ha ha, brilliant Geoff! The single edge razor was only on loan to me to let me try it out. I do agree with you a little bit about the misnomer! Personally, I think the quality of the shave has a lot to do with the things you mentioned, but I also think the razor choice comes into play too. Great comment! I shook the Thayer's in today's shave! Cheers. Kevy 😀

Hi Kev, the first Gillette tech you had, what year are they roughly, I have one also, I'm thinking 70s can't be sure tho. I have a Parker 99r, my first razor, took a bit of getting used to but now enjoy it. It all clicked when I got the merkur 34c, great razor, out of all my razors it's the best performance wise easily. I use a synthetic brush most days, boar just doesn't do it for me, I like badger tho. Anyway enjoying the den tour. Take care, owe in NZ 💈

The Treet black beauties are a good blade, nice and sharp and very smooth. I've not had any problems with rust. However, I find they don't stay sharp as long as other blades. I can only use that blade for 2 shaves then it's done. My favourite blade at the moment are Perma-Sharp stainless. Fantastic blades! Cheers, Kevy 👍

hi kevy , yes the 34c is probably in my view , others may vary - your best razor out of your collection , btw - if you put other blades in that , you can change its aggressiveness , think it has a blade gap of 61mm which makes it a very deceiving piece of kit .

Ralf P That's a tough question to answer. My favourite blades change whenever I try new ones and like them. There are so many different blades out there to and so many variables depending on what soap and how thick or dry the lather is etc. My favourite blades at the moment are Perma Sharp's, Polsilver super iridium and Gillette Silver blues, but that might change as I try different blades. Great question. Cheers. Kevy 😀

Hi Kevy, Me Again! I tried the Derby with my EJ 3D Lazer Diamond this morning and it wasn't a great shave. No irritation or nicks but it felt like I had done half a job. I am wondering if my razor is so mild so as to require a very sharp blade to obtain that BBS we all desire. My rationale for this thought is that bar the odd nick on the first pass, the Feather blades perform as I expected all blades to.
@kevyshaves4109
@kevyshaves4109 7 жыл бұрын
David Dyer sounds like you need a sharper blade. when I bought my EJ - the same one you have - it came shipped with a pack of Feather blades so I guess Edwin Jagger recommend using them in that razor. I find it quite mild too on my stubble. Yes, I would try a sharper blade, feather, voskhod, perma-sharp, Polsilver super iridium. Cheers. Kevy.

Hi. Good to hear you like the Stirling brush. I really like it too. I was given the Satin Tip brush as a gift. It is as soft as the Stirling but it's a bit smaller but it is a really good brush. It has a superb amount of backbone and it holds a ton of lather. It really is an excellent little brush. I have it in the black bristles but you can also get it with white bristles. I didn't know much about it beforehand but when I received it, it really surprised me how good it was. Hope that helps. Cheers. Kevy:)

I used an Astra green blade in my razor (Edwin Jagger 3D) for the first time today and it failed to remove anything. I put a feather blade and it shaved a treat. Does one have to use a different technique for different blades or do some blades simply not work as well in certain razors compared to others, or was it maybe just a dud blade. I would welcome your thoughts
@kevyshaves4109
@kevyshaves4109 7 жыл бұрын
David Dyer You do occasionally get a blade that's bad. It does help finding a blade that goes well with the razor depending on how mild or aggressive it is. Some swear by a Feather in a milder razor. That's what I enjoy about this way of shaving, trying out all the different combinations. Cheers. Kevy ☺

This is very strange and I point blank refused to believe these stories until it happened to me. Polsilver blades in a Mulhe R89 used to cut me to peices. However the same blades are kitten tame in a Fatip Retro, or Parker 22 Interceptor. It's all to do with the blade angle of your razor and and the angle that the blade has been machined etc etc. I've learn't never to rubbish any make of blade, it's just a matter of finding the right kit. Asco blades are pretty crap though, and I don't like Astra but I think that's just a matter of Taste/marketing. I have Dorco blades to give away if anyone want to try them.
