Following Kew’s botanical work on an expedition (organised by CNRS and the French Foreign Legion) along the French Guiana-Brazil border, this short film examines how modern techniques and equipment, coupled with old-fashioned exploration, can help fill voids in our knowledge of the Amazon flora. Shot on location in the Parc Amazonien de Guyane with the support and permission of the Park authorities.
Kew scientist William Milliken leads a research programme focused on applying plant and fungal science to support human livelihoods. Issues addressed include health, food security and the restoration of natural capital. William Milliken is a modern day plant hunter, venturing into rarely explored corners of the world to collect specimens for research purposes.
The Natural Capital and Plant Health department uses collections-based science to identify and evaluate the roles plants and fungi play in providing services to humankind.
