Apparently the engineer is one of the band members too that’s badass
@jas_bataille3 жыл бұрын
@@dretly I don't think the engineer on this performance is one of the band members. As a matter of fact, I am both a professional engineer and musician, and I can assure you : you have to choose one of those things to do live...! In the studio, of course, that's another story, but you can't make a live mix AND also be the player at the same time - I mean, you can wing it, but nowhere near this level. Engineering is very specific to a situation : a broadcast engineer isn't doing the same job as a studio mixing engineer who isn't doing the same job as a mastering engineer and so on... This is stellar work from KEXP's engineer.
@jas_bataille3 жыл бұрын
To be more specific, since they are performing in their own studio, part of the engineering is done there (mic placement and so on), but the mix was done by the broadcasting engineer :)

Blown away by the production on this. I just got lost in it. Beautiful performance all around. These songs made me feel young again, feeling a sort of melancholy for being a little too self aware of one's innocence, a sort of weird longing to feel old and long to feel young again feeling. Mesmerizing. There's a Breeders vibe. Emily sing with a kind of power whisper and a quiet wail. The rest of the guys create a low wall of rumbling rhythm and melody. On a few songs when she strums they create a unique crushing but restrained 3 guitar attack. This is my 2021 band.

Yes, I hear that, but I think Pumpkins is in a whole difference category. Mainly, because with Pumpkin and with most 90's grunge there is an underlying energy of sarcasm and rage. That was feeding my soul back then, but if another bad tried to do the same today...it would feel phony to me. Slow Pulp may sound retro, but their vibe and energy is totally different. I can sense that with this band and their energy is totally brand new. I hope I made sense. Not ez to articulate, art, energy and what rocks!!
