And for good explanation to make it clear regarding the solution of this quadratic equation is that always wherever the parabola cuts the X that is where you get solution to quadratic equation and line of symmetry is obtained by taking X = -b/2a, so if you substitute the values of a and b you get X= -1 that is the line symmetry. And the parabola opens upwards because the coefficient of x2 is positive. If it is negative the parabola opens downwards.

Sister I don't agree with you on Range, because you were supposed to have made X the subject of the formula using general equation of quadratic and finally get X= -1+/- √(4-y) then test any value of y whether you will get values of X without getting any complex number, and you will see from there Range should have been at most 4. So don't check on the parabola to assess range for that case.
