Frogs were my first favorite bait. They reminded me how fun it is to catch bass as an adult when I got back into it. At that point about 4 years ago I had one setup with a frog tied on going into fall and did well. Then branched out from there to make sure I get bit every trip. Now my wife says I have to much but I look at it like, on a good day I have just enough. Lol

Good video. I frog fish all year here in Florida and I agree 100% that you need a softer tip rod. Helps with accuracy casting and allows fish to get it a little better. Love the channel keep the vids coming. Would love to see a video on rigging your top set ups. Ie drop shot, leader length.

Great video, I fish Canyon lake Ca and recently got it into my head I need to learn how to use the Frog.. I have got lucky with a small pad crashed and a larger pad popper. I think all were lucky and enough to get me hooked... Struggling big time getting the walking action..I fish out of a hobie outback kayak.. Going to try going to 50lb braid instead of 30 and cutting the legs at an angle you showed .... Great video thank you

Open water frogging can be some of the best because it’s probably not something they see a lot of especially putting it in hard to reach places and walking it out around wood cover, cut banks, shade lines etc. Pit it in your hand one evening and hang on!

I used a MH for a while with 40lb braid for a while with no problems, but there was some cover I would not throw in. I just ordered the Daiwa Tatula Frog rod (I hear the Irod Genesis II Fred's Magic stick is also great) which should be great for landing a big one that is doing figure 8s between all sorts of weeds and I have to pull all of that stuff up with it. However, a normal heavy rod like the Tatula jig rod I was using last year or the Abu Garcia Fantasista 7'3" heavy will also work well for jigs where the frog rod is a little bit too overkill for jigs.

Hey man great video. To the point and tons of really good info! Video quality is great as well. Thank you for sharing. I am considering picking up a Dobyns Fury frog rod. However, they offer a 7' 3" Heavy Fast action and a 7' 3" Xtra Heavy Fast Action. Which would you recommend?
@HunterShryockFishing6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment man! Without ever picking one up it’s hard for me to say. Keep in mind having a little bit of tip to your rod with a heavy back bone- that being said id lean towards the heavy but you’ll know when you compare them in your hands👍👍

Quit question do you think it would be okay to use a medium rod for no vegetation

Absolutely! in fact a medium heavy rod would give you better casting accuracy and be more parabolic which helps keep the fish hooked up when reeling them in.

What I really want to know is, how many times have you stepped on a rod when doing your smack daddy walking hook set?! Lol

A lot! Lol the trick is being nimble and not really putting all of your weight on it. Usually once you step on one it’ll ruin the rod but I haven’t broke any this year!

Why does Hunter trim frog's legs like that (so short)? Why do they come in the package with 4 inch long legs? Can anybody explain please!
@HunterShryockFishing6 жыл бұрын
It allows the frog to “walk” side to side better when the legs are shorter. It’s a personal preference of mine and many others. I also know ppl who leave them long right out of the package. Another thing to think about is when the legs are shorter, the frog is more compact, allowing the fish to inhale it better without the legs hindering the initial blowup.
@WarEagleTheBest6 жыл бұрын
Basically you saying - one inch is that ideal length should be. I'll try to shorten legs of some of my frogs. Thank you!
@HunterShryockFishing6 жыл бұрын
Roughly 1.5inches is what I normally do. Anywhere from 1”-2” is a good length. And if you mess them up, you can replace your legs so don’t throw your frog away! 👍

Great! Thank you for those valuable tips!
