Once in Vienna, by coincidence on an empty street, by coincidence his motorcade passed by and he waved to me from the Popemobile. I raised my hand, stunned. My friend had her senses and said let’s follow him. We chased him to what I imagine was the papal embassy on a narrow street. A small crowd was assembled and he came out on his 2nd floor balcony to greet us. He looked at me directly for a moment that seemed very long, I smiled and waved, but I think I felt very shallow and unnerved by his eyes and gaze that had such depth and seemed to see into me. That was the first time I guess I knew what a penetrating gaze was

One of the most wonderful popes we had in our Catholic faith , I had the honour of meeting him in Rome in 1998, was beautiful kissing the ring on his finger and being next to the man who is the closest person on earth to God, it was overwhelming in a fantastic way

I do remember my childhood when I use to clap my hands and wave at the television whenever they showed “marpapa”(that’s what I used to call )on T.V and I never knew who he was or what he was but watching him on T.V I use to smile and laugh and call out loud “marpappa”. @@katarzynab946 Just bcs they are a Non-Christian doesn't mean they'll end up in Hell. Just because u are a "devoted Christian" but harbour a negative heart will go to straight to Heaven. No one knows who goes to Heaven or Hell. It depends on how much good deed u made while u r still alive. As a good Christian we must pray for those who haven't found him so that they'll knw abt him asap. Instead, "we" neglecting them and cursing but not encouraging to join us. Remember, "Love your neighbors as you love yourself". We as a Christian has no right to hate but to Love.

@@natashaedwin4927 you misunderstood me. I am not telling that atheist who will convert won’t go to Heaven but if this person will be dying and won’t regret sins won’t go there. I am Catholic and believe in purgatory but even there are souls who loved God but didn’t repent enough through sins. It is possible only with regret. I read recently about Saint John Maria Vianney when he told a woman whose husband comitted suicide that even though he did it he is in Heaven but it was only because he before dying he felt perfect contrition which means he regretted everything. It is no so easy to go to Heaven, sin can’t be there. A lot of souls go first to purgatory. We have to pray for everyone, I try to do that, but telling atheists that even if they won’t convert they will go to Heaven won’t help them at all. I have a brother who is agnostic, I am also converted so I know how that person thinks. Those people some of them tell they don’t need God and it is sad but this is what hell is a place without God. And after my conversion I now understand that this is a gift from God we can’t convert ourselves, we can only pray for those souls. That’s why so many Saints suffered for those souls for them to receive this gift. But many today even they would saw Jesus without this gift they would not believe still if they won’t receive faith in their hearts from God. That is my opinion. And I also believe we live in end times so I know there will be a lot of false prophets, who will teach against the Bible and if I see that Francis or someone else is speaking sth against the Bible I can’t believe them, bc law is the most important. God in the Old Testament strictly forbids doing certain things and tells straight that those who break the Commandements or those sins won’t go to Heaven. Of course thanks to Jesus we have Holy Sacraments but we must be still concious to do good deeds and not bad. And yes thats truth that we will be judged bc of those deeds Jesus told us that bc firstly we must also believe in Jesus. He told us He is the only way to Father. And a lot of people don’t believe in Mary and she will be the help for us on Earth when satan will be rulling in the end times. So I am just saying that satan will be more and more strong before Jesus will come so we need to have a strong faith and those without faith can completely surrender.

Some moment as at that time they - the youth- were being put down, used and abused and thrown out by a society of parents, educators, governments, where many died of maltreatment on the streets. I was in middle school when he passes. It was a hard day for all of us as Catholic because he was so beloved by all of us. He taught me a lot about being humble and kindness, he was such a cute pope. I miss him every days and for Saint Day couple years ago my nephew was Pope John Paul II, we have fun doing project about him and learn about his life then. I miss him.

I am a Baptist by early family tradition, but I firmly believe that John Paul II was one of the greatest human beings to have ever existed. In a century noted for its evil leaders and ideologies, This Pope, with his common touch and life experiences was uniquely able to see Truth and define it to others who were and are perhaps confused by all the conflicting messages we are exposed to. As to the interchange with Ernesto Cardinal in this video, I cannot think of a better person to criticize Liberation Theology than John Paul II, who lived under Communism and saw firsthand the cost of Nazism, and understood the subsequent struggle for the minds and souls of millions in the Cold War years. John Paul will go into history as perhaps the greatest Pope of all time, which is a very small club, IMO.

@Adam Johnston My Mother came to Detroit in 1960 from Grodzisk. Both of my parents, Polish Catholic..but the devil worked very hard to keep so many away from the Church in the 1960.s. Now I am helping them to renew their faith. So much was lost due to Vatican2, novus ordo, the anti.popes...it.s heartbreaking.

The generation that grew up during his papacy are starting to become the leaders of the of the Church in the 21st century. Lots of problems were building up in Rome and he was travelling the world. The problems included clerical abuse scandal. He handed to the Congregation of bishops but nothing much happened. Only when Cardinal Ratzinger's CDF was given the mandate then the German cardinal acted swiftly and even senior prelates were tackled. The church also had to spend hundreds of millions to settle cases with victims. It was very sad and the reputation of the chirch hasn't fully recovered. Hundreds of thousands of Catholics stopped going for services. But salute to the German's actions and decisiveness. This didn't make him many friends inside the church. But he acted instead of seeking popularity.
