Hi! I think you could find key lime pie filling at a large grocery store like Walmart or Meijer (not sure which you have in your area). It's not as common of a flavor, so you may have to look a bit--or buy it online. Let me know if you give this recipe a try! 🍈🥧😀

It isn't very common, so you definitely have to look for it. I used canned key lime pie filling from Lucky Leaf, if I remember correctly. If you live in the US, you should be able to find it at a place like Walmart, Meijer, or even online. 🍈🥧

Thank you! We definitely do have a lot of time-saving ingredients here in the US. I checked the ingredients for the key lime pie filling, and I think it's a custard rather than a curd (the ingredients list includes modified food starch--corn specifically--but no egg or egg substitute on the list). Good question--yes you can! Here on my channel I have a ton of dump cake recipes: apple, strawberry, blueberry, lemon--just pick the type of pie filling and/or cake mix you want to use, and you can make a ton of versions. 👨‍🍳

A couple of questions: can you just mix the lime juice and extract into the pie filling? Also with the butter, could you cut it into the cake mix - like how you would for biscuits? Would it change the consistency of the cake topping? I would very much love to try this.

Hi! Yes, if you want to, you can just mix the lime juice and extract into the pie filling instead of spreading them out on top. However, some dump cake purists say that this type of dessert should be made without mixing ingredients, but you definitely can. I think you definitely could cut the butter into the cake mix and then sprinkle it over the top. Let me know if you give this recipe a try. I know you'll love it! 🍈🥧
