Martyn Iles is an Australian lawyer, commentator, and preacher living in the US. He is the Chief Ministry Officer at Answers in Genesis, a large Christian apologetics and education ministry known for its famous Ark Encounter and Creation Museum attractions in Northern Kentucky, which are visited by 1.5 million people each year. Martyn, as a Canadian who HAS NEVER been interested in politics...that is, not until the past 3 or 4 years. Not up until homelessness, drug overdoses, our health care system and a few other issues came to the forefront of my mind. But Americans are vastly different to (from) Canadians. Politics is a religion in America. During the past few days, I was thinking of the political environment that Jesus lived in. Roman occupation, to be specific. What were the viiews of Jesus on this subject? Nothing. To the best of my recollection, Jesus only made ONE COMMENT by way of reply. When asked if tax dollars should be paid to the Roman government, his response was, "Render to Cesar what is due to Cesar, and render to God what is due to God". Jesus was most certainly apolitical Martyn, don't get caught in America's politics. It wil sap your strength (much like Samson being shorn by Delilah) and dilute your message, which is the proclamation of the gospel. 😊

If I could add one more comment here, Martyn. We aren't wrestling with flesh and blood, but against principalities of the air. I recently read an excellent representation of "the heavens". Human beings live on the earth; Satan and his devils live in the next realm, and God and His angels live in a heaven above Satan. (Forgive me for the capital S on Satan, but my program is doing it). Please Martyn, don't lose your focus...

You might be surprised at the number of Christians in America who are apolitical, even to the point of not getting involved on any level. The Bible cautions us to avoid all extremes. There is certainly a healthy balance when it comes to politics, and Martyn has done an incredible job of admonishing Christians in this area of responsibility.

CONSTITUTION OVER THE WORD OF GOD, THE BIBLE? Remember that our Founding Fathers are not the Disciples. Yes they believed in God, but all of them did not hold to the teachings of Jesus. Hear what Jesus says in contradiction to the Constitution… “Those who live by the sword, will die by the sword”. “If someone slaps you on one side of the check, give him the other.” “If someone takes something from you, don’t ask for it back.” “If someone forces you to walk one mile, walk two.” “Whoever wants to save his life must lose it. Whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel will save it.” “You’ve heard it said “An eye for an eye”. But I say love your enemies. Do good to those who spitefully use you”. “Do not return evil with evil, but return evil with good”. Many people like to mention how God used armies to inflict His judgment in the Old Testament, which is true. But now we are under the “New Covenant” . So the question we may need to ask ourselves is…Am I really a Christian?
