i have exact same car and same problem. what can i do if jiggling the wheel while turning the key doesn't work?

It should work. But if not. There is a jammed part in the steering/ignition switch area.

@@subtledriverspot on!. i had to call a locksmith who took apart the cylinder and found a piece of lint in it, like 1 cm long. no idea how it got in there. cost me $200

Turn it harder. I thought this tip didn’t work until I turned the wheel harder and then the key turned. Took a couple of tries, too.
