I remember taking a whole ton of notes and essays on my BlackBerry Classic, until the device literally died and never turned back on, and forced me to move on. While I don't miss the lackluster app support of BlackBerry OS 10, I fondly remember and miss the charm of BlackBerry hardware and unique cues and features and gesture navigation of BlackBerry OS. And of course, how can I forget that keyboard. It made everyday interaction from texting to writing to searching stuff in documents such a joy. It was such a wonderful experience, and it makes me sad that there's no sequel to the BB Key2.

I'm still using an old Nokia e75. I have 8" and 10" tablets, so I'm quite familiar writing with screen keyboard, but whenever I need to write anything even slightly longer, I immediately take my bluetooth keyboard. And for phone usage, no modern phone comes even close to the usability of a physical keyboard. Two main reasons: 1,with physical touch and feedback, I don't have to keep my eyes on the keyboard. I FEEL when I have pressed the right key. 2, lack of cursor keys forces me to go "about there" and rewrite more than just the text that needs correction. Almost always, pressing somewhere in the text, the cursor goes close, but not where I wanted. May be an issue with my skin. Sometimes I need to press a button several times before it actually works. Same with all devices I have used. Physical keyboard for me. No contest.

I think you can just plug a USB keyboard (like the kind you'd plug into a computer) into any normal phone using an adapter that fits with the phone's charging port and it should be compatible, it wouldn't be super portable but if I needed to use a physical keyboard I'd prefer a big one. There may also be wireless keyboards that could connect using Bluetooth or something, but I've only tried wired ones. (while writing this comment I remembered that I still have the adapter I used the first time I tried this, so I can confirm this trick still works because I'm typing on a physical keyboard right now!)

In times of crisis (having to write a thesis) I've bought a 50$ Priv half a year ago. Just note taking and a sporadic phone call. For me the *absolute* killer feature were the shortcuts that gave so much power to the user. Device also felt so good in the hands it's a darn shame BB gave up on the idea and didn't make a 2020 Priv2. I did the thing and sold the Priv (to use it for anything else was more than a pain with Android 6 and was so slow it lagged my input when typing). Now I'm looking to buy a Key2 or Key2LE to have just a SIM-less PDA for notes and productivity stuff like Todoist and time tracking. For these purposes and more generally to have a workhorse (that's also a conversation starter) the blackberries are still great. I made the switch to Key2 over a year ago and feel I made the best decision. The most difficult leap from Q10 for me was the size but actually with the Key2 after a couple of days you get used to it and it's a very nice looking phone in person. (and quite slender but robust so fits in pockets nicely) So many physical key short cuts even a spare button on the side to programme whatever you want. Finger print recognition on keyboard space bar. Lots of hybrid options too. I have the Key2 Dual-Sim BB006 phone in black.

@@daarksideyt please let me know cause I'm interested in the fxtec pro. Have the bb key1 and I love this phone but I hate the ratio's because things get cut off on my screen. But that security tho which is the only reason I don't want to part with this phone

@@daarksideyt i went from Q10 to Key1 eventhough i was so fond of that small thing, I did miss a decent camera and yes, now i'm on social media all day and my life sucks more lol. The android is a b* to set up, esp when the first one dies and you have to install asecond Key1 (did still have my software on my desktop to set it from one q10 to another but yeah.. that didn't work for the Key1.

My phone of choice for everyday use is always going to be an iPhone, however I have a serious guilty pleasure - BlackBerry. I love collecting old BB phones, and one you left out in this review I thought was worth a mention is the Blackberry Priv. Similar look to the Key 2 with the advantage of a full sized touchscreen that you slide upwards to access the qwerty physical keyboard underneath - love it!!

Unihertz just recently started rolling out a Titan Pocket that’s apparently a smaller version with better software and security, but has the same square screen with a smaller footprint, and it allegedly trades off the water resistance from the original due to being less rugged. Plus, the camera is still pretty bad. Interested to see if you’ll check it out
