Very sound advice. Elk hunters have preached this for decades. North/East slopes are thicker/cooler better bedding, and South/West are better feeding areas..

As a native Arkansas guy. I know a spot exactly like 1 you described. It's fantastic year after year in the mountains......

The point you made about North facing slopes is making lots of sense to me right now about PA's early archery season in 2023. Our property is on a south facing slope and although we found lots of sign on our property and a neighboring parcel, the majority of fresh rubs we found were on the north side of another neighbor's land. On 1 short trail that was only stretching 100-150 yards there was upwards of 30-40 fresh rubs of various sizes. My son and I also found several sets of big tracks on that trail. There are lots of white, red, and chestnut oaks in the area with several very large mast producers. The woods is also fairly thick with bedding down below. So what you've said about this really gives me a better understanding of how to hunt it in the early season. Another note: I believe that our side of the hill is mainly traveled at night and also by does. For during the early season we usually don't see an extraordinarily amount of movement that would match the sign. Especially, when it comes to buck movement!

Any chance Drew mentioned what brand of Estrus he uses?

Well the biggest buck on our property was 75 yards off the road an 200 yards from the house. I just googled mapped the area and he was on a north facing slope. Holy smokes!!! After watching this video I had to look at the map. Glad I did !!

Even if my hunting area is way different then the southern states like Canada for example, I can still use/apply the terrain and tactics that Drew is talking about. Good stuff liking what I'm hearing !

I personally do not care at all spooking a doe. I'm not there to shoot a doe. If the buck isn't with her it doesn't matter imo.
