Ahh Riverside, one of the few music products from my country which I can be proud of (and actually the only non-black metal band). This album - Anno Domini High Definition - is quite possibly them at their peak. Their soundscape and build-ups in their longer tracks is second to none. As it's been already pointed out, I'd love to see you do a Slow Burn on these guys. If not, definitely check out the song Second Life Syndrome which is regarded as their masterpiece by many.

I just saw them live a month ago, this song included and it was just delicious. Michał had three keyboards, a Korg Kronos alone towards the audience, and a Hammond with another keyboard, I’m assuming a synth, above it. I paid the most attention to him and Mariusz because the bass and the keyboards are just so good and captivating in all the songs they played. This was an awesome reaction, I love seeing people really appreciate good prog, thank you!

Excellent band , with a solid discography. Dream Theater with half the notes , and a more soulful singer. And very cinematic. Big fans of Vangellis. The keyboard influence is John Lord of Deep Purple .The keyboardist Michal is a fanboy. Mariusz plays bass to serve the song. He slings the bass strap lower for songs he uses a pick , and back up to a more appropriate height for fingerstyle , often in the same song if possible. He also utilizes a piccolo bass ( not on this album ,but later albums and his solo work as Lunatic Soul) to help beef up the guitar attack.

Funny, I've never made that comparison in my head, being quite the fan of both DT (early-mid DT anyway) and Riverside, I guess because they take such a different approach to their music, even though the influences can be very similar. I didn't know they're Vangelis fans, but I can totally see it. Riverside is one of the few bands I consider to be actually underrated. They're pretty damn great in general, it's hard not to enjoy listening to pretty much any of their albums. They deserve to be better known.
@6lillium2 жыл бұрын
@@GaudyGabriev Yeah, the whole band are fans of Vangellis, Tangerine Dream etc , and Gru's (RIP) favorite band was Dead Can Dance. Most his tattoos were based on their music. They all really have wide musical tastes, which is on display in their solo work. If you haven't, check them out. Lunatic Soul , Meller Golyzniak Duda , Michal's solo album "Are Your There" ,and Maciej's album " Zenith".

I like particularly that sequenced bass synthesizer which is pulsating in the background, when piano and guitar break started 11:30 and continues till the very end of the track. and they mastered it to not ruin the arrangement with mixing too many instruments: you still hear both bass synth and bass guitar here 12:12

Mariusz Duda (vocals & bass) is brilliant. Riverside is well worth a deep dive or slow burn… and he also has a side project called Lunatic Soul which is incredibly good. Not as heavy (in terms of sound) but very interesting music. All seven Lunatic Soul albums are worth spending some time with.
@mattvsmetaverse2 жыл бұрын
Darn, I missed this one, so... late comment, but... Spot on! This album was basically a love letter to 70s prog. Riverside's first few albums were more along the lines of modern-day Porcupine Tree. Almost wouldn't know it's the same group, save for the vocals. And somehow, it all keeps a continuity. Mariusz Duda is a fan of many genres. His solo project, Lunatic Soul (still going strong) is more on the ambient/folk/prog side of things, and also worth checking out. Riverside's one of those groups that will always be in my library, next to prog giants Porcupine Tree and Opeth. As far as musicianship and composition go, I'd put Mariusz' right alongside Steven Wilson. Even if you don't react to them again, definitely give their albums a listen. It's an experience worth having.

Hi there Geebz, I've dabbled in your vids a couple times here and there (mainly from the Radiohead reacts) and I admire your appreciation towards to how a lot of music is produced. But I really think something that you should consider reacting to something from the short lived band, Talk Talk. Many of the post rock bands like Radiohead got their inspiration from Talk Talk, which were mainly their final two albums, which are "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock". I would very much highly suggest that you do a reaction from either of those two albums. Or the third to last album, "The Colour of Spring". Hope you see this comment. :)
