I've been subscribed and watching your videos for several weeks now. I really enjoy them and find it very interesting seeing what life's like on a dairy farm. I believe you do a great job at editing your video content by making them interesting, educational and humorous. I also really appreciate what you said at the end of this particular video - about how we need to recognized our being blessed and not allowing ourselves to get caught up in always wanting more. It's good to plan ahead and think of ways we might do things better, but when we choose to remember to humble ourselves - to make the best of what we have, and be thankful for it - we are able to enjoy life more fully and be a good example to others. Some of the happiest people I know don't necessarily have a lot of material possessions. I also know some people who have lots of stuff and plenty of money, but it seems they are very miserable in their souls. Wise people recognize that true lasting contentment doesn't come from bigger and better stuff. Stuff can certainly be enjoyed, and can make life easier and even more profitable sometimes, but lasting contentment really only comes if one has a real and personal relationship with Christ and through their relationship with family & friends. Appreciate the example you and your family display. I also have to admit that for some reason, watching the manure go down into the hole in the ground when you scrape it with the tractor, is so satisfying! Hahaha-Weird!!

You work hard, in fact, almost non-stop, have a relaxed character and appear not to be too flustered when things go awry. What you said at the end of the video really struck a chord with me. It is very frustrating when you can’t make improvements that you would like to do to the current dairy economy. I love your videos. It was always nice going to look at equipment at those shows and dream about owning it but if Uncle Sam didn't own your dairy farm it's going to be very hard to afford with today's prices and all the more they pay for milk and grain. Hi. Just a friendly reminder : Don't give to much of a location where you are . Keystone Farm Show is close enough. There is people with dishonest intentions scouring KZbin movies for workshops to see what kind of tools they can borrow indefinitely ( same for equipment ) . These days- with internet and Google Maps almost anyone can find out where you are living. I am not trying to make you stopping KZbin movies . You are doing a great and honest job out there. I like your comments about things you can NOT afford to buy because you don't have the money for it. That is a very honest remark. Unfortunately I have not seen that from too many more KZbinrs . It shows that you are on to something with your farm. Hopefully the winter is not going to be too cold for your guys. Keep eating cheezy Pizzas. It will keep you warm.

You are blessed. I am blessed. One more thing just really won't bring true happiness. But I'll have to admit, I got excited about all the big cool and super big machines. And I don't even know what they are good for. I like mucking out the manure. I think that would be one of my favorite jobs. It's immediate gratification cause everything looks so clean afterwards. The cows are happy.

Special needs pen/ sick cow pen is fairly common place

They need to be separated from the rest of the herd especially if they are on medication. They still need to be milked but you don’t want that milk mixed in with the good milk.

Our 1520 was the loader tractor but that was 40 years ago. Your thoughts on the 'pretty' new equipment were great. Too bad there are many who don't use their head and buy. I personally think that's one of the biggest problems smaller farmers have is thinking they must have the latest greatest toys. If it's cheaper to use what you have and it works for you, no sense in changing it. Too many are going belly up because of all the new toys they thought they needed. it has to be hard enough to keep afloat as it is.

I've always thought to myself, on the farms I've worked on over the years. I don't care how old a tractor is on farms. As long as they start relatively easy! It's great to look at the top machinery but, like you mentioned, we should always be grateful for what we've got. Noticed the Semex hat again. Have you or your dad, heard of bulls called Hanoverhill Inspiration and Hanoverhill Jethro? We had some awesome heifer calves from them. Also, have you both heard of a bull called Sexation Bert? We purchased semen many years ago for all of those bulls from Semex, over here in the UK, if I remember rightly. The heifer you got in the shed where your dad says "It's not always that easy". Just reminded me of them.

That is a really cool way to keep the barns clean. Slats and then just pulling the manure into a port into the pit! I find it really cool to see how other dairy farms operate. Do you have to have pit fans in your milk cow barn to keep the ammonia levels down?

We put a bacteria product in the pit to help with gases. Don't have any issues with it

It all goes to a lagoon (pond full of cows sh*t). And I think that later they will spread it on the fields as a fertilizer.

Great to see the new technology, but they were planting corn for 100s of years with older equipment. I guess if you can be finished with planting or harvesting in a shorter amount of time, some people see it as worth the money. Most of the time to growing corn is watching it grow...and watching your equipment sit and get older too.

I notice that everything is covered in mud and or poo and inside some of the have tons of spiderwebs. Does it ever bother you that everything is always dirty? Also do the cows go out to pasture in the spring and summer? Thanks for the info!

I'm not sure your expectations are very realistic. I would say our farm is pretty clean, always room for improvement though. Some of our animals get pasture during the nice times of the year. They actually like it inside during the summer though because we have fans and water sprinklers and clean beds. We put a lot of effort in to keep our animals happy and comfortable and I think we do a decent job. Thanks

I agree you do a great job. I was not meaning anything bad by my comments and I hope they were not taken that way. What I should have said was that it looks like you have a dirty job. I just thought that maybe there was a time where you maybe you got tired of having to clean stuff up all the time. It seems like a huge part of the job. We used to run shlagel closing wheels like that. They do ok but I would never buy them again if I had the choice. (They get lots of rocks in them and root balls in rye stubble) Go with cooperhead furrow cruisers or yetter poly twisters.
