Started watching your videos about a month ago and worked backwards from last to first. They are all great but I have to say they definitely improved over time. The greatest improvement was when you dropped the music and started doing more narration which is always instructive. I've never been a diver but have been a fisherman for over 60 years. I'm learning just as much about fishing from your underwater videos as from the fishing videos. The catch and cooks are a bonus. Keep it up.

That’s awesome! And yeah I had someone editing the videos for me at the beginning, when I took over I dropped the music. Everyone seems to like to feel a lot better.

@@KeyWestWaterman Yes! Much better without music. In films about fishing, music only interferes, because you want to hear the sounds of nature, the sounds of fishing, and not be like at a disco.

The fact that he says all the time not to rush the shot, and then shows us the footage of him doing just that, when he clearly could of chose not too include that clip, shows us how honest and humble this man is. I've Never been on a spearfishing charter but if I did, it would be with this captain. #dreamtrip

It was early morning yesterday I was up before the dawn. And I really have enjoyed my stay but I must be moving on.... First song I heard on the radio while leaving the Key West Garrison Bight marina on Captain John's Greyhound. We set out for the Gulf side and talk about an awesome day!!! Back in 89 the fishing was so good you only needed to get out on the water and throw a bait in. Grits and Grunts became a staple in my life and I still prefer Grunts over the average fish like tilapia and cod. Life changes and the Keys did as well. I'm so glad to see people that are treating the keys in a respectable manner. As a commercial fisherman I have seen some really messed up stuff. Like people pulling our traps and stealing our catch. Blatant sewage dumping in the water from vessels. You guys give me hope for the next generation to be able to enjoy and sustain the keys. I respect you for what you do and the way you are doing it. People often said that commercial fisherman were the ones ruining the keys. I always said No! People who have no respect for the keys are the ones responsible! We're conservationist that would work hard to keep the keys as pristine as possible. They stopped fishing traps in order to stop killing fish species and make sure they don't become extinct from over fishing. People who don't know what it takes to support themselves by working on the water may never understand what it means. I on the other hand will never forget. Sometimes it might mean going without a few things for the month. Other times it's a motherload and a nice pay day. For me it was always a grateful day to be on the water and receiving its bounty. Weather from beauty or the catch it's always an amazing day to be on the water in the Keys. Thanks again for all of your hard work and the content you bring

Man I wish I had found your channel a few months ago, I just came back from a 4 month long internship down at Mote and wished I could've stayed for longer. Hoping to be back in the keys soon, and especially with mote. Either way awesome video dude, love your content and been binging these past 2 or so weeks.

We call Mangroves Black Snappers up here in the Panhandle, but whatever you call them they are maybe the best eating fish out there. Wish we had yellow jacks up here. Their fillets are way prettier than AJ's and Almacos, just no comparison. Lots of charter guys at my marina [all rod and reel]. Very professional and easy to talk to. We are going to try to chum up some blacks tomorrow. The honey-siracha sounds really good.

As a guy on the ground, I'd love to hear your observations on how/if industrial fishing practices (i.e. trawl) and climate change are affecting the density of life and whether you've had to adapt.
@KeyWestWaterman
@KeyWestWaterman 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve only noticed a few species and they are victim to trawlers or long lining. Haven’t had to adapt much down here yet.

I’m with you Aaron. Mangos are one of my favorite fish when it comes to just basic easy fried fish . Theres nothing better than freshly caught mangrove snapper fried up and served with some Hushpuppies and potato salad or coleslaw! I usually whip up some tarter sauce with siracha to go along with it. But the honey and siracha sounds good too might have to try that!!!😎. BTW why no Hogfish? They are delicious

haha right! love it! one of my favs! and the numbers down here are struggling pretty good. I don't let clients shoot them on charters because 9 times out of 10 they are under sized

@@KeyWestWaterman oh I didnt realize that was going on and also the numbers being down! I love Hogfish but can certainly eat other fish to help get their numbers back up. Any way that explains it and I will be down in Marathon in June. Carry on brotha!😎

It'd be nice if you'd educate us on fish Identification when you pull it up to your body or on the boat, and when you do it describe the meat of the fish. I don't know about others but I'd greatly appreciate that. You could even make a pictorial color chart with the legal sizes to spear / catch, what kind of environments and depths the fish are found, how to chum or approach them along with any other relevant data that would be helpful. Heck, you could write a book with the depth of your knowledge.

Food for thought when editing. If you record all, or almost all of your dives, you could add a "dive counter" per spot and maybe an all day count. You could put it somewhere on the screen to help people understand/realize you aren't dropping and shooting a fish every time. Gives people a visual of what dive you're on for a spot and how many trips down you've actually taken before shooting something!
@KeyWestWaterman

Not a bad idea! Just a little more work! Do appreciate the feedback. I always try to make it clear it’s not every dive!
@SpacePoohBear

@@KeyWestWaterman I completely understand on the more work on your end. Which does suck, but food for thought! I know GoPro's can be a pain sometimes or I'd suggest a stop start after every dive so when editing, you see the breaks in records, but I know that's not possible because it might not turn back on for awhile lol you do a great job emphasizing it's not every drop!
