One of the finest aircraft ever! Many passenger miles in the early 1970s via Allegheny Airlines. Comfortable, smooth….fabtastic.

I took my 1st ride on one of those...Allegheny Airlines from Wilmington, Delaware to Philadelphia in 1968.

These need to come back for passenger service. Short haul & rural service needed badly as jets can't fill. A great aircraft the 580 turboprop. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the comment! I definitely agree with you, the short field performance, versatility, and gravel runway capability is definitely unmatched in most modern jets.

I flew on these aircraft back in the 70s as a child to the islands in the Caribbean when they were passenger planes, I miss those days.

Very cool! You were very lucky to fly the Convair, I don't believe there is a single passenger configured Convair anymore. Even these freighters will be gone in a few months.
