He did the same with Towns and Gobert. Towns was a good sport about it though. But provocation would never happen between Jokic and Ayton. You could tell Ayton looks up to Jokic, Jokic might be his idol. It's like that with many bigs around the league. They all admire and respect Jokic as a person and basketball player. Watch Davis be similar to Ayton because he too respects him.
@calebjakande4294

@@Primitive_Code I think the respect is mutual between the 2… Jokic has always praised Ayton… Jokic actually said in an interview that Ayton is his toughest matchup. Well this series Ayton played bad. Jokic always has big games against the Suns so that did not surprise me but… in the past Ayton has always played him tough and made him work for it… so watching Ayton out there was surprising and disappointing. this series Jokic just dominated the entire Suns team.

I kinda feel the opposite. There has always been this sort of "his game is so good but it's a next level, subtle, kind of good that you have to really understand the game to appreciate" when people talked about him. I'm glad fans who've never really watched him play, but heard all the debate about his MVPs, are seeing that whatever else he might be as player, he's also an unstoppable baller who can drop 50 in a playoff game dropping shots from all over the place. His game is sublime, but now they know he's a straight up dog too.

It's hard to commit on Jokic because of how fast he passes the ball. He's just too good at reading defenses and knows where the open man is. Denver is also a well oiled machine at this point. They've got so many good cutters and shooters Phoenix didn't know what to do. Suns basically wanted him to score and prayed no one else would go off. They also hoped that Ayton would somehow slow him down.

You gotta either play him starlight up and get his and try to make it difficult for him or take his passing away. He got both in this series, his slicing them up with his scoring and passing that can't be a great game plan for this dude his a back to back mvp. The sun's been a bad defense team all year, so it makes sense they wouldn't make any adjustments.

@ktbeatty
@ktbeatty Жыл бұрын
That's the thing KG understands about defense on players at the level of Jokic. It's not about stopping them, you can't. It's the thing that the players who defended (not stopped, not shut down) players like Kobe, Jordan, LeBron, etc. the best understand. It's about letting them know you're gonna be there all day and make them work for every moment they're on the floor. His most important point was about meeting him at the free throw line and running up the court with him. Make them work continually for everything. If your effort begins when players at that level get the ball, you've already lost. You do that relentlessly, game after game, and the last 5 minutes of a vital 4th quarter of a game 6 or 7, maybe they can't quite get to that special level because the tank is nearly empty. You didn't stop them in that moment, you stopped them 6 games back making them work their ass off on a simple inbound pass half way through the first quarter. It's not easy to bring that intensity and never let up when they are dropping shots on you left and right, but it's why the KGs and Rodmans of the game were special.

Shaq toots his own horn. But he was like a Bigger, more muscle bound Z-Bo(but way less skilled). He's a all time great but not as great as he is inside his own head. You put Wilt in the late 80's with all the pills and personal coaches and cooks, That man would be absolutely killing shaq. You put shaq in the late 60's and 70's and without all those personal trainers, cooks, pills(Cause you know you gonna be Rich as opposed to what they paid players in the 60's) and he really would be just a Fat Giant with little skill. Jokic is in a lot better shape than most of these guys think he is. Dude has to play half his games at altitude, and anyone trying to push the pace on him there is going to be gassed early and then Jokic can just toy with them the rest of the game. Outside Denver, they can probably push it longer, but Jokic is going to have more wind there, too.

Well what you’re talking about is not the same as a “dig”…what you’re talking about is a full commit. A “dig” however is where the guard is basically halfway between the perimeter player and post player. Defender is feinting at the post player but not fully committing unless the post turns his back. It’s to discourage all the post dribbling and staying in position to double or go for a steal if the opportunity presents itself, but you can also still close out on the perimeter defender. If you played college, you basically spend 3/4 of practice doing it lol. Problem is that most NBA players, especially the younger ones, don’t know how to play defense….and the ones who do don’t really want to. Plus add in fans who don’t really want to see that. But trust there were MULTIPLE things they could’ve done to slow him down

Ayton has done everything the Coach and organization has asked and never complained… that changed last season when they didn’t want to give him the max. He sacrificed offensive stats and concentrated on defense for the sake of the team during that Finals run. And then they didn’t want to pay him. If they truly didn’t want him and believed he wasn’t worth the max then they wouldn’t of matched the Pacers offer. James Jones just wanted to try and retain Ayton on a cheaper contract and now it’s blowing back on them. Shoot even bringing in KD I knew it was going to make the team worse… only player to benefit playing with KD was Booker… CP3’s assist went down, Ayton and the rest of the team other than Booker’s scoring has went down… the team got significantly worse on defense… no chemistry and they offense has become way more predictable with this heavy iso offense. When Hakeem had you in the post you probably felt like it's game on and every ounce of energy is on making his shot difficult. With Joker he may go up, toward the rim, back out, pass to a cutter, whip it cross court etc.. so you aren't locked on stopping him. Seems crazy I know.

Watching the suns and how they play offense, I’ve always felt like Ayton never gets any plays called for him. It’s always pin downs or pick n rolls with the 3 others stars. He’s the type of big man you need to feed on offense so he doesn’t start getting disengaged on defense. They ask Ayton to do things no other suns player is asked to do, rebound and play defense. Ayton has happened to guard MVPS when he comes up short, Giannis or Joker. I’d be disengaged too if my teammates just wanted me to set picks and rebound and pass out while they take highly contested 2 pt shots and harder 3s.

Jokic and Larry Bird playing together would have been unbelievable. The Joker is like Bird on steroids. He's skilled, but so damn big. 7' with length and 275 lbs.

This is why KG will forever be one of my favorite players to ever watch. The intensity and unstoppable motor is unmatched and still is. I bet KG even at damn near 50 could kill plenty of these soft bigs in the league right now.

Wow. He/his team got dominated by top 10-15 players of all time. No one ever calls out players that got dominated by other stars like Shaq, Bron, Jordan. We tend to praise the offensive players. But when someone finds a scapegoat they will run with it.

To be real with y’all I think that Ayton still have a grip on Phoenix especially Monty Williams after saying out loud that DeAndre was soft last year in the playoff. This is just a get back from Ayton.
