This is the best Stones Bootleg album . It means a lot to me because I listened to it with a good friend and we learnt the songs together on guitar -he passed away in 2015 so this music is part of my deep memories and life story .

I don't think any group got even close to the greatness of this band in those years. This dirty, rough rock & blues played by the Stones remains unsurpassed. The perfect rhythm section with Bill Wyman unique lines and the metronomo beat by Charlie Watts behind the amalgam of Keith and Mick guitars under Jaggers voice, his best years, all this is a masterpiece never matched!

Woodie ir a real rocker, totally whidskey soaked, thin as a rail, burnt on coke rockstar, and a damn good guitar player. He had some real brilliant licks early on with the faces..... I love 'em both!! And I'm not comparing, because there is no need to. But damn if Mick Taylor doesn't play like someone from another universe!! His work is phenomenal.

Damn, I never knew this recording existed! As people have said Bill and Charlie are as tight on the beat as they ever were and Mick is in fine form on vocals. But the guitars are the killer, Keith with his power chord riffs and leads which defines the Stone's sound and then Mick Taylor is a true master on guitar throughout! They became known as the "Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World" during this era. Think this recording shows why!

I think what made this era so special was the combination of MT's virtuosity at his craft with Keith's raw energy and riffs.(In addition to the phenomenal songs MJ & KR wrote!) Mick wasn't quite the flamboyant onstage performer he became shortly after. And this was just before the big stage theatrics started - it seemed to be mostly about the music. Plus the whole scene with how Exile came together.

Mick Taylor was a virtuosos but he was never a Rolling Stone, or a very good one. If Keith's guitar were removed from Stone's songs; all those riffs, hammer ons and pull offs and all the syncopation and great tones it'd be a bummer to listen to. As you say Keith is the Stones. Ron Wood makes for a great Stone too.

FYI - I hope everyone realizes that it is Mick Taylor who plays all of the incredible and mesmerizing leads in Gimme Shelter here.

***** Hey Matt, all the official guitar credits go to KR on that song. Brian Jones was hanging around but he did not contribute. Ry Cooder was the other guitar player who contributed to the album. Mick Taylor was not at the Let it Bleed sessions. Plus, Keith came up with the riff for the song and is credited as a composer. If you can give information that shows mine is wrong, I'd interested. Also, I didn't say KR was a better guitar play than MT. Isaid MTO. was great but was never a great "Rolling Stone". MT was the best guitarist ever in the band (if you haven't heard Blues from Laurel Canyon by John Mayall, it has a virtuoso Mick at 17 years old.) My point was that when KR had to, he could hold his own in the greatest r&r band, and that the lifestyle of the bandmates was too intense for MT. Looking forward to anything you find that is contrast to my post. Also, thanks for being polite. It's rare on YT. You are a very decent person with great taste in music.

Offrande1 Hi. Can you prove it was Mick Taylor who played on that song? Mick intertwind modal and blues riffs in all of his solos. The solos on gimme are Keiths. If you otherwise, please get back to me because then I would have had the wrong information for 45 years. Thanks for your thoughts and passion for great guitar solos.
@andywolf5871
@andywolf5871 10 жыл бұрын
Right. Mick Taylor played slide on 2 songs but he did not play on the recorded version of "Gimme Shelter". Are you a guitar player? Gimme is a straight blues solo. Mick Taylor never, ever used straight blues solos. That is why his playing was superior and distinct. He always, even with a slide used a combo of blues, pentonic and modal; the melodic scales, going back and forth between blues and melodic. "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", "Sway", and so forth. Gimme isn't that great a solo. A lot of Chuck Berry bending of notes and no slick and speedy runs. The solo always comes back to the same note which is Keith's style because he wasn't a great lead guitar player; whereas, Taylor used as many notes as he could and didn't come back to the same note, same octave after making a few slow, ordinary bends. Listen to live Sympathy for the Devil on Get Yer Ya Ya's Out. Keith plays the first solo and he always winds up at the same note in the same octave. It's like an anchor for him. The second solo is Taylor and his is full of melody. Then compare Gimme's solo to Keith's on live Sympathy. I don't know how much more stupid I can make it for, since you requested that it be stupid. Anyone who knows Keith Richards techniques can, without question identify the Gimme solo as his. If I am wrong I'll send you a gift card of 50.00 to whatever restaurant you choose. Not that it matters, but my PhD is music history and my paper, 25 years ago was about British blues guitarists. What that means is I had to do so much research and double checking of facts that I felt like heaving and it almost made music no fun. Plus, I have been playing guitar for 40 years and Keith was my first favorite and at 10 yrs old I thouhgt he played all the solos. Trying to be civil and respectful to your knowledge and it is cool that you found and presented the Rolling Stone article, but that article doesn't say what songs Taylor played on. The link I sent you should clear it all up. Included in that link are the sources cited that say, w/o a doubt that Keith is the only guitar player on Gimme Shelter.

I have this gig as part of a double-vinyl bootleg called Nasty Music. I found it in a Leicester boutique in 1975 and bought all 8 copies. I think it's their best live performance. Superlative performances all round especially from Taylor and Richards, a beautiffully balanced guitar relationship.

I agree 100%. It blows me away from a production quality standpoint. The audio quality is better than Ya-Yas or Love You Live in my opinion. Very smart of the Stones to eventually release the really popular bootlegs. Now if I could get my hands on a similar quality live recording of Van Halen from ‘81 or ‘80…😏

Played in a band for years. We all liked the Stones but one guy loved Floyd, one guy loved Zep, one guy loved punk and I loved the Dead but whenever we wanted a really great song to get women to shakes their asses and have their souls follow we played Stones songs. I think half of our set was Stones tunes and we'd have done more but everybody was like "Geez, we got enough Stones songs..." I didn't think we had enough.England's finest club band and possibly the greatest R&R band of all time.

Actually on that very day I had my own live gig in my university in St.Petersburgh trying hard to be as close as possible to Mick Taylor, playing Love In Vain and Jumpin' Jack Flash - thank you kg441!!!
