Hey John, I really tried to like the Marineland canisters but I have had Zero luck with the C-Series canisters. My first complaint is the difficulty at getting them to prime. It was so ridiculously difficult, my maintenance on them was basically nonexistent because I didn't want to struggle with restarting them. But worse than that, I literally went through more than a dozen C-360s and nearly as many as the C-530s because they would leak if they lost power. I ended up throwing them all in for free when I sold one of my 75 gallon tanks. However, I contacted Marineland and told them my tale of woe and they sent me two Magniflow filters and they have been more than fine.

I have two of the original 220's that have been running on my 75 gallon for 5 or 6 years now. Never had a problem with them and work really well. Replaced all the o-rings once and that's it. I clean them out every two months staggered.

I have a Fluval 407 on my 60 and a Marineland C360 on my 75 gallon tank. Not much to report on the 407 as tank is still cycling, but for the Marineland I can definitely say that it's been a great filter! The 360 is a step up from the 200 and also comes with 4 media trays as does the 200. The only difference is canister size and the 360 includes 3 (not 2) bags of carbon. My only two gripes with this filter are as follows: 1) priming was a PITA. I never added water first like John did, so pumping the little red button took FOREVER to fill the canister (compared to priming the 407 which only took a few). 2) And probably the bigger complaint that will also be comparable to the Aqueon is that changing the filter baskets for routine maintenance can be quite cumbersome. Changing the filter floss isn't too bad, but once you have to take out the ceramic and bio balls to clean (in tank water of course) the black sponges, it can be difficult to get everything back into the filter with water in there as the bio balls float and sometimes fall into the "intake tube" inside the filter. You pretty much have to empty out half the canister of water and refill with tank water after you reassemble everything before you put back onto the tank. Other than those 2 minor annoyances, love this filter and it's been doing great at keeping a decently stocked 75 gallon clean and clear and under control!

The Marineland Magniflow 200 Canister Filter is a better design canister filter than the early Marineland canister filter. A quick tip to priming an Canister filters. Fill the canister with water. The canister with water primer button (or many canister filter) do not get water running after priming. You can set the canister to the side and let air bubble work the system. Slowly tilt up the canister filter up and let the air bubble out the system. By the time you have the canister filter upright nearly all the air bubble be out the canister.

I ran a Magniflow 360 on my 29gal for a few years. Really liked it. At one point I made a spray bar for it using 1/2 inch pvc. It was quiet and had great flow. Kept the water crystal clear. Also swapped out the bio balls with lava rock. I originally got it half price on black friday.
@scottscheibe55174 жыл бұрын
I have 3 of these, on my 30,20L,45 corner tank. I recommend putting the polishing pad in the top of the bottom tray, helps keep the gunk out of the bio ceramics, you can put some of the bio balls under the bottom tray sponge base, don't think the bio balls are much use.. I replaced the rest of the bio balls with biohome ultra and added more ceramic pieces in the upper trays, got rid of the carbon bags. Added slip on sponge pre filters on the intake. If I change the bottom sponges, they come with two course and a polishing pad, I'd like to go course, medium, fine sponges.

I love the Marineland canisters. I have been using them for years. You should have got the next size up the C-360. It also has 4 trays but larger. Holds a bunch of media. Rates for tanks up to 100 gallons but I run 2 each on my 60 g and my 75g. I always over filter. Keeps the water crystal clear. I run them with 1 tray in the bottom with a course foam, medium foam and the the fine pad before it hits the bio media. It stays much cleaner I change them every 2 months and all the crud gets trapped in the bottom tray keeping the bio media from getting clogged. Chuck the carbon! Or save to take out medication if needed.

Love this canister. I own 8 360s and 1 220. Never had a leak or any breakage of any kind . All running for 2-4 years. Also they are half off at every petsmart black friday sale for the last 4 years. For best surface area buy/add 2 coarse sponges to 2nd tray and move the fine filter pad to the top of the bio rings.

I have the magniflow 360. It works amazing for the first year. There is one fatal flaw. The red prime button. There is a flat rectangular rubber gasket where the prime button assemble screws onto the filter housing under the gray cover. This is the source of everyone complaints about this filter series. Where it leaks from the latches but it’s not the main motor head seal. There is no replacement gasket for the prime button and marine land does not seem to care either. They just try to say, oh you didn’t follow directions and set it up properly so it’s not warranty and we’re not going to replace it. All the filters in this series suffer and it’s a shame cause otherwise the actually filtration is pretty dang awesome!
@douglaslang22184 жыл бұрын
Just a heads up; if you read the fine print on the instructions... these canister filters;’ “the 220 gallons per hour” is unimpeded by filter Merida. Meaning they run it without media into an empty tank to see how it fills up another tank... Once you add media it goes down to about a third to half the output and that’s when it’s clean.

I have this filter and I love it! The only issue I had was the hose clamps that come with it. It wouldn’t seal and was pulling air into the filter from around the intake tube. I replaced it with a different type of hose clamp, something a little more sturdy, and it solved the issue. I always filter more than recommended. I have this on a 36 gallon. I believe when I get my 75 gallon I will go up a step and buy the next biggest marineland canister filter.

I'd go with the Sunsun 704b canister as I had one on my 75gal African Cichlid tank that I used to have, I currently have it on my 125gal S.American Cichlid tank as a water polisher filter with the Fluval FX6. I paid about $95 for it and for the size that thing moves some water, I'm sure it would be even better on a 55gal and for media compartment trays it has 4 that hold quite a bit of bio and mech media if need be.
@jon3681003 ай бұрын
Had a C-360 for years on a high-flow 37G tank. Loved it for the longest time…quiet, great media flexibility, powerful, great for plants. Unfortunately, it went downhill in basically one month. The O-ring on the head started leaking. Replaced that, but then the lower parts of the body must have cracked. Apparently, these were both common issues with the C-series because of the design and how the motor interacted with the media housing. I’ve heard of lots and lots of people having trouble with these filters too, so I was too scared to try one on my new 55gl. Which is a shame, because the Magniflow 400s were on clearance.

I bought this filter because of this video! I was a little intimidated to try a canister filter but your video made this look so easy to set up. My daughter and I did everything in about 15 minutes. I do have a question about the hose connection to the valves, do I push the hoses up to the threads or past the threads? I could only get them up to the threads and the nuts did go over them but I’m not sure if that was far enough. The manual doesn’t say and it might be kind of a dumb question but I really don’t want any leaks. Thanks again for the video!

Thanks for the great review. I know it's a few months old, but I've been looking at these and other canister filters. I had the Magnum 350s for years and I was very happy with them. Never had trouble and they served me well, but I shut down my tanks quite a few years ago. I know they are outdated now and even though they probably still run, replacement parts are not easy to find as I have found out. I have several tanks but my biggest is 120 gallons and I'm considering getting the bigger magniflow for that. Actually I'm considering getting two of them, but I am considering other brands as well. I have seen some reviews about these and leaking, but I've seen those reviews about all the brands. I have a feeling thst many of people that have the problems are using canister filters for the first time. I'm glad I stumbled on your channel because I've been out of it for a while and I'm going to need to catch up with things.

My tank is heavily planted so I removed the carbon and added more sponge filters. When I do a maintenance, the tray above the bottom has substantially less gunk in it. I swap trays every time I do a maintenance. Plus it gives you more surface area for BB. The only issue I've had with this filter is BUBBLES! Where the intake connects to the hose is rigged and doesn't seal tight and sucks in air. You can either put vaseline around it or just simply cut the ridges off with a utility knife. I use the 360 for a 75 gallon and water is crystal clear! And you were short the extension tube in that box!

I would rather keep the output over the waterline while primming. Or maybe placing it in a bucket on the ground so the primer pump helps starting a siphon. Then i would move the output for the definitive position and turn the filter on. Unless you had an in-tank pump like the Cobalt aquatics EXT canister filter.

I just put together the 530 from marine land. I breed albino turtles so turtles in general require a minimum of 3 times the filtration as fish to keep a sparkling tank for months so I think I picked a decent one but not really to sure. I need a second filtration for my other that I had set up ( hatching tank ) also so my question is there anything stronger than what I purchased that handles over 150 gallons (for fish) that does well for you and is a stand alone filter? (Note: I could not get it primer working so I have someone coming out tomorrow) .

I actually paid 90 plus tax for my c360 through PetSmart sale plus their auto ship discount. i am thinking about modding the input tube since it appears to be short. Want mine to be down low since that's where most of the fish waste and food is at. I'm new to your channel and see that you could use a hand shooting your videos to help give different perspectives. Have you considered buying a 360 camera? Using it is like having another person record you and it's submersible in water in case you want to showcase your tank from within. Give the audience that fish perspective. I own a insta 360 one X2 and it's amazing. It literally is a camera crew in your pocket like how they say.
