Pac-12 poaches Mountain West schools. What it means for future of the conference

The Pac-12 announced it will add Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State alongside Oregon State and Washington State in a rebuilt Conference of Champions. They'll officially join the Pac-12 July 2026.

These 4 teams are one that other conferences have continued to look at over the last few years. They never got the invite. There are rumors that other "BIGGER" named schools could jump to the Pac 6. Teams like K-State, Missouri, TCU, Purdue and Northwestern. There is even the potential of the ACC and PAC could still merge or certain teams could jump to join the PAC. It has just begun, so let's see where we go from here. Should Stanford and Cal want to come back (don't want them back) but IF they do come back then they should only get 1/2 shares. It's all about loyalty.

The old pac12 only looked it did because of playing out of conference games against Big 12 and Big ten the new pac-12 can do the same

I’m still keeping the door open for the former PAC members to return home. I also like what a potential invitation to Air Force and UNLV would bring to getting the PAC back to P5 status.

cal and stanford not going to join pac , boise and the others just dont cut it academically. except maybe sdsu.. maybe unlv and sanjose state best fit. far bigger markets.

Sjsu? On what planet? Theyre dead weight. In my opinion With this move sjsu players will hit the transfer portal and will lessen the talent on the field. Unfortunately sjsu rarely brings any revenue into the conference.

Academically!? Makes more sense to travel to the Atlantic time zone to play half of your games? They didn't use their big brains. They should have stayed and then they could have brought the schools that fit their scholar prestige. Pretty sure they wouldn't have chosen those MW schools. But it's too late now, now they are at the mercy of what other schools and conferences do. Oregon St. and Washington St. are just trying to survive and you can't blame them for that.

I'm an OSU fan with a huge respect for Stanford because of their academics. But their smugness about who they associate with is a bit much lately. I'm struggling to resist apologizing for breathing the same oxygen. When the university is mentioned in non-sport articles, they're called the Harvard of the west. As long as they're traveling to the east coast, and they are wealthy, they should join the Ivy League. Either that or just get over themselves. My academic history is nothing to crow about. I have a high school classmate and his younger brother who received advanced degrees from Harvard and Oxford and they are as respectful and as kind as you could want. I'm probably more egotistical about their accomplishments than they are.

ASU, Utah and Arizona typically stick together. BYU is irrelevant and not desirable.

Agreed, why would you take less than half the revenue and demote yourself to the G5. There are no delusions that the Pac12 will ever reestablish the old P5 model.
