On behalf of my husband Nathaniel and myself, I just wanted to thank everyone who has followed this trial and commented. At first, we were very scared that this trial would be live streamed, but it has helped us get through it. So thank you for all the support for Dan’s family.. all the prayers and wishes. We truly appreciate it!

maam, our heartfelt condolences to your entire family...we all watched and followed this case from day 1.... she is a diabolical woman who fooled everyone for decades, as Nathaniel mentioned.. his impact statement was dynamic and brought me to tears...Chef Dan was a tremendous example of a man who loved the community and had so much to give.. through this trial, although I did not personally know him, but I think we all feel like we did..A fine man to behold...All your lives must go on, minus one, but Dan will always live in your hearts.....and remember. They got her...Warm wishes to all of you..

People like Nancy go after the most empathetic and loving people because they will be the only ones that can forgive their evil and still see good in them. I say this to point out that Dan had to have been an incredible person. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope there is at least some comfort in knowing that she did not win and will die in prison. Her hatefulness will eat her up before parole could ever happen.

I was thinking the same watching earlier testimony. When they went over his every day schedule, i was amazed at all the life living and giving he offered to everyone and everything around him. Then she's going over what she does, going for coffee, going back to bed, dangerously driving around aimlessly while she writes in a notebook, lunch with friends, etc. Im thinking This is a woman who has ruined them financially and she has all that free time bc shes obviously a lazy manipulative taker. I can only hope the prison will put her on the most physically demanding and demeaning labor they have.

@@nycat1485 Nancy already looks old for her age. It was only her vanity that kept her looking 70-ish. When she's not in narcissist mode, she's dead-looking. She also claims she has diabetes and is frail: she used these arguments in a bond hearing, saying COVID would almost certainly kill her.

@@nycat1485 Yeah, the judge isn't doing any favors getting credit for time served. She'd be better off staying in prison, since she won't have enough to live on. She didn't work hard enough for manageable SS. Imagine what rent will be when she gets out. She'd likely get housing assistance and maybe food assistance from the food pantry or potluck in the park, but the latter doesn't cover much, and if you only have meager SS for all your bills, and you're 92 or so... Nancy won't be haunted by the image of Dan dead after she killed him. Narcs have zero emotion..there's nothing there. They are cold, calculating people who are monsters on the inside and master manipulators on the outside. What you see is the complete opposite of how they feel deep down inside. They are "master" manipulators because they are experts on manipulation. They can fool anyone. They are untreatable by professionals because they can fool them as well. Nate said it best that evil people are amongst us. I believe that trials like this is the perfect platform for the world to witness narcissists..unless you have encountered one, hang on to your boots straps and settle in for the show of your life. Narcissist are great actors and change like chameleons to whatever benefits them. They are capable as we saw here in this trial of anything including murder and for no reason, mostly to benefit themselves in some way. They prey on vunerable, forgiving people that they know they can con, easily manipulate and control, while undermining your forgiving and easy going nature. They are poor excuses for human beings and literally wolves in sheep's clothing. On another note, I as well as others question Nancy's sentence for 2nd degree murder. Was 1st degree verdict off the table before deliberations? Maybe the prosecution didn't prove premeditated, and this is why 2nd degree was the verdict? It's safe to say that Nancy will die in prison..She'll be in her late 90s when she's eligible for parole. Although I wish nothing good for this monster, I hope she lives a long time living in a cage for the rest of her miserable life. Her and her big, long winded mouth, I hope she goes nuts talking to her cell walls. I'm sure she'll find someone in prison who will fall prey to her manipulative ways. Or she'll drive inmates crazy talking all the time. My condolences to Nate and the entire Brody family for the loss of a great man who we all grew to know and admire. I hope you all find peace in your hearts some day.

Bravo Nathaniel. You did your Dad proud. I hate that Dan saw his killer for the second shot (unless she disguised herself). A shock being shot and then a double shock betrayal at seeing her face.
@sleuththewild
@sleuththewild 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think she had time to disguise herself.... She looked like herself in the van. But I also don't think disguise would have been an advantage: people were also used to seeing her around OCI, so if she showed her real face, no one would think anything of it. And, if you're like Nancy and can't keep your mouth shut, changing appearances doesn't do a whole lot of good.

9:34 "Payroll and tax fraud that you waged on your employees....." Per Nathaniel; one of his first statements. We had hints in our discussion that Nancy must have had a life of fraud or other crime-ing-remember the "arson" fire, insurance clawbacks, filing false tax returns, and, indeed calling herself married to Dan and taking the Brophy name-but this one was not something I saw discussed here! I know we in the comments had wondered why Nancy had no supporters, and I suppose this is the reason: she ripped them all off when they were her employees. The State also let drop that Nancy was committing crimes behind bars. They mentioned it during a bond hearing in 2020 when Nancy said she should be released because she was almost certainly gonna die of COVID. But the evidence for these crimes went under seal. I wish it was now unsealed!

Indeed! She's a fraud to her core. She got away with it. Until now. She went beyond her fraud skill level. Ooops. Glad she got caught, she's where she belongs. Yes, Dan's kitchen went up in flames. The source was a short in a light fixture in the basement or something. I'm not buying that it wasn't arson.....by Nancy. It's possible Nancy had other scenarios as well. She dragged Dan along on a mystery writer's cruise (standard murder location); there was the mysterious cut on his hand the week he was murdered, along with a story that the shower door had shattered; there was a confusing story about a leak...

I followed this trial and the senseless murder of this beloved man, we all know now as Dan Brophy. I was moved to tears over the statement Nathaniel gave at sentencing. The prosecutors, particularly Mr.Overstreet, did an outstanding job, you could see even through his clear professionalism, had a personal stake in putting her away and exposed her for the monster she is. Losing anyone one love is hard, but I can't imagine under these circumstances . To the family be strong, stick together, and know Dan is with God, and looking over all the people who loved him , and he loved.

What do y'all think about Dan's will maybe being a Nancy fraud? Evidently, friends and family had to go hunting for it after Dan was murdered. It was in the garage. This whole thing struck me as odd. Why would you write a will and hide it somewhere so it would take 35 people to find it? And maybe they'd never find it? Maybe Nancy wrote it? And forged Dan's signature? And then hid it in Dan's garage? This makes way more sense to me, especially if Dan left everything to Nancy or even left her things that were previously promised to Nathaniel.

Will the man she took the life of, come back alive in 25 years!?! Then why in the world would she ne ever considered for parole!?! And that is called a "justice" system?!... ...there is zero justice in that! Justice would of been, life in prison without parole and being sentenced to pay all fees and to her last penny, in restitution!!!

it's the way the murder laws are written in Oregon. Second degree is what we usually think of as first degree. First degree is murder of certain people like children or public servants. For Nancy Brophy, opportunity for parole in 25 years is a moot point, she will be 97 or dead by then.

I can only hope that his son will be able to receive all the money that Nancy stole. I trust that the insurance companies do pay up, afterall Nancy did everything to keep up the payments and it is not Dan's son fault that Dan was murdered. I cannot recall whether the home was sold (hope those blackberry bushes were all cleared away!) if it was sold I can only hope that the money did not go towards this woman's trial defence.
