Keeping civil commitment patients in the hospital (an acute care setting) takes beds away from others who need them. Also, who pays the daily charge for that acute care bed? Hospitals are barely making ends meet. To keep a long term care patient in an acute care setting is fiscally irresponsible whether that patient is a mental patient, an elder who needs a skilled nursing facility, or a baby/child waiting on a foster parent to become available.

Behavioral Health places don't have real therapists and the people deciding what your meds will be are also not therapists or doctors, just regular people who don't know Jack about mental health, if you don't believe me go check it out 😇

Create facilities for each stage of care. Make mental health a priority for all Oregonians. Be the first state to tackle the mistake of closing mental health facilities in the 80s by making Portland sound in mind, body, spirit again. It will start a national trend like the bottle law did at one time.
