Fans along with the mma organisation don't like it when a fighter retires on their own terms, for fans it always leaves a what if question mark and for the organisation it's the premature loss of a cash cow. Once a fighter is at the top they're supposed to fill the role of a company man and give back to the organisation until they're not needed anymore by them and the fans

I've never understood why people expected khabib to come back - he's devoutly committed to his values, religious and moral. He was trained from birth by his father, had a great relationship with him and dedicated everything he won to him. He promised his mother he would not fight without his father. His father died, he went 29-0 and the undefeated undisputed champion of the ufcs most stacked division. Its the perfect story, he had beat everyone there was to beat at the time (Charles wasn't a serious title contender at that point), and retired with nothing left to prove to train his partner who his father always told him would be champion after him.

Khabibs story is admirable. But the narrative that he cleared out the division and then left it is simply false. He beat a #11 ranked real estate agent for the belt, beat a finished drunk mcgregor, and 2 top lightweight contenders. He’s pulled out of more fights than any other UFC LW in the last decade. He has arguably the most stat padded record in MMA history, man fought someone making his debut when he himself was 14-0, He ducked tony 3 times and the only ranked opponents he beat were strikers, didnt touch anyone BJJ heavy like Olivera. He acts like he couldve beaten anyone in the division and it woulve been easy. If olivera beats makachev we know khabib wouldnt have had a chance either

As much as i loved watching Khabib in his prime, especially during the Connor fight. i knew from the moment he retired that he meant it. He's not the kind of guy who only put's one foot into his endeavor's, he's all or nothing. Now that he's coaching his pupils, and doing his promotion. there is no shot of him coming back. He's been inactive too long and he knows it. Unlike Connor he knows when it's time to cash in the chips and walk away. I want to see him in the octagon as badly as anyone but you don't know the man very well if you think he would retire on a whim, just to return years later. He means what he says , once that door closes it never will open again. For that i have tremendous respect for him making that decision to retire on top and leave the belt for someone else.

I didn't believe him when he announced his retirement. There was a long list of young UFC fighters retiring in their prime, only to come back in a year or few. At best, thought it was an emotional moment. Difference is, most of the fighters that 'retired' talk about getting back I'm the ring before their comeback. 2 years later, Khabib is still saying no. Kind of bummed, but respect him for keeping his word.
@RonniePTexan2 жыл бұрын
The plan laid out by Abdulmanap (Khabib's father, Islam's adoptive father, and the head coach) was for Khabib to win the belt, get to 30-0 or 35-0 and then step aside for Islam to then get the belt. When Abdulmanap died, Khabib's mother wanted him to stop fighting, so that overall plan was sped up. Khabib retired and his focus had been on getting Islam his day in the sun. Abdulmanap was a Sambo champion and trained the Russian military for years and his goal was to become a coach for his son's to become that champion. Khabib met his goals, and for Abdulmanap to have his goals met, they needed Islam to become champion. That's why everything has been put into Islam's training. It's all been accomplished. What's next? That's the real question.

But I still say Jones should have to beat Gane in order be #1 contender. Too much can happen in 3 years. Let Jones prove he still has it at the increased weight and I think Gane has the right skill set to test him. And if Gane beats Jones, there's no doubt he should get another shot at the belt and will do better than his first time. And surely he'll be less camera shy. But if course you're right about Kabib.
