Number 9 Yh man definitely, but the English translation does not live up to the language it was originally written in, just like the Qur'an, there are words which have like over 20 meanings and ways of describing things, so logically speaking commentary on the verses is needed for people who do not understand the original language =(

Sarfraz Hanjrah Yeah I know exactly what you mean. Thankfully - this is Japji Sahib - probably the most researhed bani of Sikhism. According to Sikh Scholars, Japji Sahib is based off of discourses between Guru Nanak and a group of Sadhus (Hindu ascetics). Because of this, we've been able to pinpoint many correct verses (sadly not all), and through correct translation. Here is how the Mul Mantar and First Pauri (stanza) go as best as they can be written in English as far as I know...so this is my translation: MUL MANTAR There is only one, God, whose name is the ultamite truth. God is the doer of everthing. God fears none, and hates none. God's self is not subject to time, and is beyond birth and death. God is eternally self-sufficient. It is only by the grace of God, my true guru, that I compose this poem called "Jap" ("Chant God's Name"). In the prima beginning, God was the unchanging truth. Throughout the myriad ages, God has been the unchanging truth. At this moment, God is the unchanging truth. Oh Nanak, God will forever be the unchanging truth! PAURI 1 By ritualisticly bathing yourself, even one hundreds thousand times, it will not make you clean within. By keeping silent, inner silence is not obtained, even by having unbroken absorption with God deep within. The hunger of the hungry is not destroyed even by eating loads of bread. One may have hundreds of thousands of clever tricks, but not a single one will accompany him in hiys departure from thid world. How can one become truthful, and how can falsehood be destroyed and removed. By abiding by God's command - only this will go along with you when you depart from this world. Oh Nanak, his command is ingrained within all. - Of couse this is just my translation, and if you love Japji Sahib, look up other translations that are likely 1000x better than mine because I'm just a simpleton and have only translated Mul Mantar and the First Pauri (stanza). Let Allah bless you eternally.

I get a bit confused on whether a man is being talked about or a book. ~ Also I get confused when the name Guru is being said, I can't make out Guru (Waheguru), the creator from when the different Guru's (Human Guru's) are mentioned. ~ From the Sikhi scriptures which one is directly from Guru Baba Nanak?
