With that amazing orthodox stance uppercuts to the southpaw jab and hook combinations. His arsenal is an insanely complete one and requires fine tuning and experience more than more skills or talents even. His wrestling and body strength have always been flawless and we got to see some of that too. This guy is gonna be champion if he keeps learning.

That's what casuals do not understand, you do not need to be Սn𐓈eƒⲉⲗⲧꭼ𐓰 or bust. Also a great lesson for aspiring new MMA fighters - This fight was so special and exciting because: • Both fighters didn't show up tonight for a check, *_they showed up to fight for their legacy and self worth_* It was pure gladiator sh¡t for the modern times. They fought like a loss would mean a loss of their life, honor, and respect as a MMA fighter. That kind of sh¡t stands out from even the highest level of the sport. When you fight with your body, your mind, your heart, and tonight to these guys added _their spirit_ to the battlefield. When you're that kind of warrior, a lost don't taint your record because the fans want to see a true warrior comeback narrative.

Started MMA in 2016, ranked #11 and putting up such a performance against the #2 in the division. Gilbert was ranked that high for a reason, an absolute warrior. Before this fight I was not a big fan of Chimaev but I can't say that I don't respect a man who fights for a better future for his family and mother. Growing up during the first Chechen war, moving to Sweden while dedicating his fighting career to his mom in order to make money for the family. Sharing meals with the homeless in Sweden, not even asking for attention but doing it out of goodwill. He knows how to promote himself but from the inside he's humble and its clear that taking care of his family through a fighting career has been his primary goal at all times, as he once stated. Its also great that he shows self-critique and is willing to apologize for former comments, not a lot of people have the guts to admit they were wrong.

I agree. One thing about him though is he has been fairly transparent throughout, unlike someone like Conor, that he still has respect for the people even while on the podium talking about “smeshing their faces” or that he is in it for his family and the money. If you watched the pre-fight vlogs and stuff most of the weigh-ins and face offs were competitive but good natured. Or like after beating Li Jingliang and now Burns, immediately giving them their props. I’m just curious what the dynamic will be like when he’s pitted against someone playing the “bad guy” like Colby Convington.

I know khamzat is supposed to fight Colby next, but I’d really like to see him fight Vicente Luque some time. Vicente has looked great as of recent, and has been choking out really good grapplers, would be an interesting and definitely fun fight. If Colby vs Khamzat isn’t booked by the time Vicente beats Belal again, id say it’s the fight to make.

Burns just proved that no one's absolutely unbeatable/invincible most especially when fighting at the highest level, still a pretty good job for Chimaev. The hype train didn't get derailed but it got somewhat slowed down a little. Chimaev still has a lot to learn and improve to maximize his chances of fulfilling his potential of becoming a champion.

Tonight also showed that his grappling isn't that great. Burns won in every grappling exchange and Kumshot quit even *thinking* about grappling. Triple champ..lol clowns

he was supposed to destroy him earlier. Before he goes do same to usman and izzy, and that 3 belts bullsh*t. But he got exposed, poor looping punches, poor head mouvement, and poor cardio. He ain't surviving 5 rounds with usman, and guy like vittori or Ankleiv will murder him. You already made too much noise with that hype train.

Burns is an absolute beast all respect to him he represented Brazil to the fullest. Chimaev is also a beast for coming through adversity victorious. One thing for sure is his gas tank is suspect and he is not ready to fight Usman without losing. Chimaev needs to gain more experience and work on his cardio and head movement. I'm a Khamzat fan and I'm being honest here.

His stock went up really... He's beaten no.2 on the roster with 4 UFC fights under his belt, he really should lose that fight based on ranking and experience.... The only reason people think his stock went down is cuz of the disrespect they gave to Burns.... He performed almost well as well as Usman did against Burns who also took damage from Burns. In saying all that, Usman beats him currently, Colby probably does and Izzy does (if he goes up in weight). Chimaev is only 27 tho, he will be champion one day, no doubt about it, just not yet.

Chimaev dealt with bright lights on a new level and moved from number 10 to the top of the list at a young age. It was a fight he needed more than I knew. He has power and will. He needs to be a little sharper in his striking and understanding how to manage his attack to beat a big shark, but he already learned a lot tonight. Many don't remember the difference in the Khabib that first fought in the UFC to the one that finished. Big difference in every way. Chimaev just jumped up there after four fights and still won. His success has almost been hurting him. Chimaev belongs fighting the top 3 that much is obvious but the difference in the top 3 and the rest of the top 10 is huge. Him against Colby is going to be awesome and yes Colby should get another shot at Usman if he wins.

You nailed it Chael. Chimaev is a human being, not an anime supervillain. I agree with Dana there, if you are not impressed by Chimaev you don't understand fighting.
