A cut-scene from the Bulgarian movie "Khan Asparuh" (aka "681 - Glory of the khan"), the full Bulgarian version. The movie was made for the 1981 jubilee "1300 years since the creation of Bulgaria". It has absolutely no computer effects, all the actors are real.
This scene in particular shows the flight of the Byzantine emperor and the last battle in the movie, resulting in a conclusive Bulgar victory.

Bulgarian troops, posted by Khan Tervel, helped rescue Constantinople from the Arab expansion of 717-718. In later years (805th, the Franks and the Bulgarian Khan Kroum jointly destroyed the Avar Khanate in Panonia. Thus this aggressive and warlike alliance, which for many centuries had hindered the formation of independent national states in Central Europe was eliminated.

Well, Bulgarian history is incredible enough for fyromians. And I never heard of Bulgarians minding the fact that they have mixed Thracian, Hunnic, Slavic, and especially Iranic heritage (from the kingdom of Balhara). Turks have so low self-esteem that the Xiongnu Empire which once made the Han Kingdom a tributary, the Khazar khanate, the Great Seljuk Empire, Ottoman Empire can't satisfy their big ego.

Most scythian/sarmatian tribes were either nomadic or semi-nomadic.Bulgarians were semi nomadic since they(and the alans) were discibed as people who have many towns but some of them live in tents.Note that both bulgarians and alans were described this way.

Actually it's the other way around, remmeber the slaves and the janissaries that the Otoman Empire harvested from the Bulgarian and other christian lands for several centuries. That's why they are a lot of people in Turkey that look like the normal bulgarians.

The Gagauz are of Bulgarian origin although they speak a Turkic language. The Volga Bulgaria was invaded by mongolo-tatars that's why the people from Tatarstan are turkic. The main reigions of the ancient Bulgarians were Zoroastrism and Christianity and even Mithraism

@@papazataklaattiranimam, it is and, and my knowledge back then that they spoke such language was based entirely on our commonly accepted then understanding by the Bulgarian science. Since then I have read many chronicles and other literature and my personal understanding now is that they spoke a language that belongs to the Slavic group very close to what is now called Old-Church Slavonic and not to the Turkic language group.

Well there's another explantation of our name. The turkists offer an explanation with the turkic word "Bulga" which means mixed people but the root of the name is Bulg(Ar)( not Bulga) and in our language it sounds more like Blgar.Many nations call us Balhari,Bolghi,the Armenians called the Bulgari "Bulh". Using the indo-iranian languages our name has been translated as noble or leader

Bulgarians today are not turkic. The father of slavic Bulgarians today was Khan Asparuh and he come from turkic tribes and he speak similar language like Chuvash people today which they identified themselves as turkic. The demography of the area of Bulgaria today was slavic and they didint adopted the Turkic language because they lived there before Khan Asparuh come. The Turkic Khan Asparuh gived this slavic people an identity and the name of their nation. The demography is of slavic people was much higher than the slavic that's why the Bulgarians speak slavic language. For example Macedonia today is slavic, some Bulgarians told me that they are Bulgarians and they speak very similar language. Macedonians don't except that they are Bulgarians. They use the identity of the ancient Greek Macedonians to legitimate their domination of this area. They have nothing to do with the origin Macedonians. That's why Greece forced to change their name to North Macedonia. The slavic Bulgarians have the same logic, but nobody can force the bulgarians like Greek because this turkic tribe exits only in Russia and they called themselves Chuvash. If you seriously want to have an impression how the Proto Bulgarians was then you can Google the Turkic Chuvash people. They have many similarities with old Bulgarian traditions and they also have lots of genes from the origin. The Chuvash people have good relations with other big Turkic family members. Bulgarians are thankful that the Asparuh give them an identy but they ignore that he was turkic.
@aktayturan9272

@Jotaro97 You write lots of nonsense. The Chuvash speaks Hunnic language which is a Proto Turkic language, that's why it is far from modern Turkic even we have some similarly words also numbers. Bulgarians are not really slavs and also no connection with the heritage of great Khan Asparuh.

"Proto-Bulgarians" is indeed a modern, historiographic term, just as "Byzantines". But the differentiation between the Bulgars/Proto-Bulgarians and the Bulgarians is clearly a necessity, at least in the historical science. Otherwise, yes, Danubian Bulgaria existed since around the 660s, and before that its immediate predecessor, Kubrat's Old Great Bulgaria - since around the 630s. And before that there were, of course, various Bulgar tribes, fighting each other and everyone else.

In western China there are a lot of people from Turkish origin. They look different than the turkihs people in Turkey. It's because the ottoman empire has been stealing bulgarian, serbian and greek children for a long time. That's why there are people with blue eyes in Turkey. And the turkish word "bulga" is just coincidense. The proto-bulgars were independant and seperate ethnic group. End of the dispute. КАЗАХ!!!

The fyromians in the Republic of fyrom, and Macedonian minorities in Greece, Bulgaria, and Albania, continue to proudly call themselves "Macedonians" and consider the "Slav" label an insult and racial slur. The western press was literary bombarded by mails, faxes, and emails from outraged Macedonians who despised being called "Slavs" during the Albanian aggression on Macedonia. in fact fyromians are bulgarians since samuel s capital was ochrid.. 2/3 of fyrom is bulgarian and 1/3 albanians

Response to BostonEM: A lot of scientists would sacrifice a hand if they could proof if it's true or not. How can you proof your Turkic theory? Must know that not a long time ago the history was based mostly on conclusions built of propaganda. Today the scientific element is starting to prevail and the latest discoveries shows that Turkic theory is getting weaker and it'll most probably be proved that the Bulges are much older tribe and much more civilized than we previously accepted.
