I think this video have losted an important event.Frech and Chinese signed agreement that French could colonized entire Vietnam in 1946. And after that, French was defeated by Viet Minh in Dien Bien Phu (1954) before Gieneve convention.

Sal, you made a mistake regarding Viet Minh. They were not all communists as you said but nationalists from different social classes. Viet Minh was a nationalist based organization. In 1941, when he created the organization, Ho Chi Minh downplayed communism as to assure the support of ALL nationalists in Vietnam, the working class, peasants , middle class and the nationalist rich class too. Nationalism, not communism united the Vietnamese against the French and that was how they defeated the French a Diem Biem Phu in 1954.

I've been to the war museum in Ho Chi Minh yesterday. It was hearth breaking. The images off the genetic disorders caused by dioxin. These were one of the worst things I've seen. How are some people able to do these things goes beyond my understanding.

During World War II Ho Chi Minh helped to rescue downed American pilots and gathered intelligence on the Japanese for the American OSS. Ho worked closely with the American intelligence community during WWII and his views were well known to them. They knew that his primary concern was Vietnamese independence.

cinics say because the US always wanted to influence world politics and have other countries purchasing their goods. they could not do that with communists. it's also possible the US want to liberate people from communism since it makes people suffer and unfree. so it is the opposite of what they (allegedly) claim to stand for ideologically. and of course there is the threat of being surrounded by communist states that will eventually wage war against the rest of the world. remember that communists had nukes too. I think it's a mixture of all the aforementioned reasons compelling America to contain communism. little could they know communist regimes crumble from within sooner or later as people's suffering becomes unbearable.

Part of the cold war, a struggle against communism and its expansion 1954: Vietnam was split into two zones at the Geneva Conference - North Vietnam (Democratic Republic of Vietnam):Communist State, led by Ho Chi Minh - South Vietnam: First President= Ngo Dinh Diem Mid 1955: - Diem initiated a campaign, denouncing communism (People suspected of communist activities would be severely punished.) - His regime was not very popular amongst the people, lost a significant portion of South Vietnam to the Communists. Late 1956: - Guerrilla campaign (National Liberation Front/ The Viet Cong) arose in South Vietnam - Used armed propaganda to fight their battles (as directed by Ho Chi Minh) - Used this to try and unite Vietnam under communist rule End of 1950: - US started to train forces in the South in an effort to limit the expansion of Communism into neighboring countries - A coup was being discussed to overthrow Diem 2 November 1963: - Diem was executed during the coup, without the permission of the US - His Death destabilized the political climate in the south, causing any of the following governments to topple quickly. Why ls the fact that the elections called for according to the peace agreement of 1954 were not held and frequently not mentioned deemed to be unimportant. Could it be that it was a well known fact that Ho Chi Minh would win. This is why fighting started again and the NLF prevailed.

The 1954 agreement was called a "Peace" Agreement but was nothing of the sort... it led to the escalation of tensions... IMO the partition should NEVER have happened... for me, it feels like a betrayal of Ho Chi Minh's ambitions for a united country... but he was small fry and the western powers intervened...

The Gulf of Tonkin resolution actually did NOT officially engage US in war. Congress only gave a "blank check" to Johnson to financially aid the war, but they DID NOT officially declare us to be in war. I think the North Vietnamese were kinda evil Because first of all, they "kinda" disagreed with the Geneva Peace Conference which was a conference in order to establish peace and end the Korean War and divide Vietnam into a communist state in the North and a democratic state in the South thus the names North Vietnam and South Vietnam Second of all, North Vietnam literally supported insurgencies in South Vietnam before the war even started, thus this resulted in plenty of killings started by the North Vietnamese. One being the Hue Massacre which I suggest you do research on to see how the North Vietnamese were evil Third of all, North Vietnam was literally an evil imperialist nation that wanted power and control over South Vietnam (Basically, they wanted South Vietnam to be united under their communist rule which I think is a little evil) Fourth of all, Before the United States even got into the war, a North Vietnamese military coup shot Ngo Dinh Diem, the final prime minister of South Vietnam. I see this as a ridiculous North Vietnamese attack And Fifth of all which has to be probably the darkest and dirtiest, the extreme war crimes that the North Vietnamese did! The North Vietnamese had conducted tens of thousands of murders and kidnappings and terrorists which were ordinary citizens, government officials, etc, Frequent mortaring of civilians in refugee camps, Placing of mines on highways frequented by villagers taking their goods to urban markets, thus also causing slaughters, The Dak Son Massacre which resulted in 144-252 deaths, The killing that the North Vietnamese Spring Offensive caused, and the abuse of American POV's The Viet Cong and North Vietnamese caused more than a hundred thousand deaths (Im not even exaggerating) I know North Vietnam wanted freedom but they did wrong actions in doing so Sorry for my poor grammar

Presidents now say, "I'll listen to the advice of generals on the ground" because Johnson and to a lesser extent Nixon micromanaged how the war was fought from Washington, DC, instead of allowing the generals to fight the war in Vietnam.

you should try and include more figures in the video, that way you get a strong feeling of the reality of the war, like how in the operation "rolling thunder" the US used more bombs on Vietnam then they did in WW2. For the Tet offensive, "36 of the 44 provincial capitals, and 64 of the 242 district towns" and that is in reference to the Viet Cong . Just a suggestion for improving on the already amazing videos you make! Keep up the good work! :)

Because we only fight for our independence, our goal is to own the country, not to interfere with any foreign powers. that is our goal, and the domino theory that the United States speaks about, is just their own point of view, we just want peace and unity, the Americans who are present in Vietnam unknowingly become a hindrance It is natural that our country must be united. I've been at the DMZ in central Vietnam last years. Not the happiest day of my life. You forgot to mention the horrible consequences of the chemical weapons the US used; ie Agent Orange. Also, in the first Indochinese war, the French attempted a surprise attack on North-East Vietnam from Laos. But Ho Chi Mins army saw it coming, quickly supplied the north and counter-ambushed the French battalion at Bien Dien Phu. That blow made France give up and lead to the end of the first war.

The Domino Theory came about because some people in the US government thought they could suppress the North Vn. by using air power and legitimize US military presence in South Vn. In 1954 after the Vietminh defeated the French the US stepped in and divided Vietnam into two . The evidence lies on the Naval bases and air strips in Vietnam as well as in Thailand.... Da Nang (Vietnam), Sattahip (Thailand), these two Naval bases were just built right before the incident in the gulf of Tonkin and there were two other air bases in Udon and Ubon (Thailand) which were just a few miles west of Mekong River. Thailand was also the reason why Cambodia had to have a military coup to be an US Ally.

You have it all wrong, after Dien Bien Phu, the Viet Minh eliminated their non-communists' members and became a full communist party. Then North invaded the South who only tried to defense the aggression. In 1963, Diem and his brother was assassinated in a American favored coup by the Vietnamese military junta. In April 1975, the North Communist had taken the 15 tons of gold, not Thieu! And you forgot that a few millions Vietnamese's tried to escape communist regime after 1975 risking their death at sea trying to find freedom!

All the 1st North Vietnamese leaders were once Americans allies during WWII against the Japanese army. US President Franklin D. Roosevelt sent a small group of US special military personnel to Vietnam after 1 year after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. These US military personnels train the 1st Vietminh soldiers how to use assault rifle and booby trap. The Vietminh save several US pilots, who plane was shot down by the Japanese army. US President Franklin D. Roosevelt recognize Vietnam Independence from France but never to live to see it. But his Vice President Truman took a different approach by supporting the French to recolonize Vietnam after rejecting Ho Chi Minh letter of support for Vietnam Independence from France. This cause Ho Chi Minh seeking support from communist Russia and China. In 1950, US Democrats President Truman sent the 1st US MAAG personnel to Vietnam to assist the French Army in Vietnam. This is how America 1st got involve in Vietnam. On May 7, 1954, when France lost thier rule over Vietnam after losing a major battle at battle of Dien Bien Phu to the North Vietnam. America military never left from Vietnam because US Democrat President Truman, JF Kennedy, and LB Johnson made sure that United States Southeast Asia would not fall under Communsit. On Nov. 2 1963 US Democrats President JF Kennedy and LB Johnson stage a military coup assination on South Vietnam President, Ngo Dinh Diem. This gives United States the power over the country of Vietnam and the Vietnamese peoples. And US Democrats President, JF Kennedy and LB Johnson appointed their puppet ex-Vietminh soldiers, Nguyen Van Thieu, as President of South Vietnam. The South Vietnamese President, who later cost 500,000 South Vietnamese killed or capture by the North Vietnamese army and their allies Pathet Loas and Khmer Rouge of Cambodia when he sent them to Laos and Kampuchia. And who told him to do so. United States. On Nov. 22, 1963, JF Kennedy was killed in Dallas, TX. US Vice President LB Johnson, was appointed as President of United States. The following year Aug. 8, 1964, US Democrats President, LB Johnson announce US military action to Vietnam to Americans peoples over the Gulf of Tonkins, which involve a US Destroyer was patroling past the 17th parallel DMZ line near Honoi the capital of North Vietnam. But according to US Nuclear weapon offier, John White on the US Destroyer Maddox. Their were No attack. But still US Democrats President LB Johnson push for US military action to Vietnam which lead to the Vietnam War. Only 500,000 US ground troops was sent. Out of all the US ground troops who was draft and sent to fight in Vietnam. 40% were Blacks males, along with non-college white male, high school drop out, war protester males, and convict. America didn't sent their best but their worse from 1965. When Nixon became US President in 1969. Nixon order all US ground force in Vietnam to began pull out. US Republicans President Nixon order a non-stop flight of B52 bomber to bomb Hanoi and Haiphong. Nixon promise to continuing of US military aids to South Vietnam to defend themselve from the North Vietnam aggression. United States would replace any US military weapons that was lost to the South Vietnam. The South Vietnamese army did retake back many lost territories in the South from Communist North. On August 8, 1974, President Nixon announce his resignation as President of United States over the Watergate Scandal. On Nov. 5, 1974, the Democrats won a landslide in congress both in the US Senate and the House of Representative. The following year in 1975, the Democrats control congress cuts all US promise military aids to South Vietnam and on April 30, 1975, the Fall of Saigon to Communist North Vietnam and thus began the flow of Vietnamese refugees out of Vietnam. During the entire Vietnam War, America brought pain, death, and destruction to the Vietnamese peoples of Vietnam. And today, many South Vietnamese young generation are still being infected by US biological Agent Orange which America spray all over rivers and forests of South Vietnam. And Americans continue telling story that they came to help the Vietnamese peoples in Vietmam from communist. What a Joke😂

From 1965 to 1975 america lost 58,000 soldiers fighting the vietnamese, but during those same 10 years 200,000 americans were murdered by their fellow americans in the united states. where is there a wall for them ??? furthermore, from 1975 till today an additional 750,000 americans have been murdered by there fellow americans and the killing still goes on every day. This is a generally good presentation, with two exceptions. 1. The first of two claimed attacks against US warships in the Tonkin Gulf (8/2/64) was genuine, as acknowledged even by the Vietnamese themselves, who take pride in having defended their coast. The second claimed attack (8/4/64) was spectral, as all parties acknowledge today. The entire “incident” was indeed used as a pretext for the escalation of US involvement in Vietnam. 2. The 1954 Geneva Conference called for _free_ elections, an important distinction from any kind of election at all. The video is correct in pointing out that Diem and his successors were not fans of democratic (free) elections, but omits that Hanoi’s leaders were of the same mind. Neither Hanoi nor Saigon had any experience with free elections, nor any interest in them. Also, it would have been meaningful to mention that neither Hanoi nor Saigon supported the 1954 partition, and so it was literally the imposition of foreign will.
