Awesome, thanks! Back at 5:58, when you were saying that you would get the same value if you didn't include the median of whole set, if that is the case and you don't include the median of the whole data set, what if the number to the left of that 50 wasn't also 50.....? if it was as follows, for example: 49; 49; 49; 49; 50; 51; 52; 53; 53... where you have 4x 49's,. the median would then be (49+50)/2, which = 49.5...and it isn't 50. am I correct? I believe you don't include the median of the whole data set, hence 'INTER"-quartile, where 'inter' is defined as between. From what I remember learning, I never included the Median of the whole data set.

It's easier when 1) You have the permission and flexibility to teach it however you want 2) You don't have to keep interrupting your instruction because of behavior issues 3) You don't have a time limit 4) The only thing you have to focus on is explaining material.

When finding the median of the 1st and 3rd quartile, do you ALWAYS include the median of the 2nd quartile? Or does that only apply to an odd number of data sets?

You probably learn this for the first time at around 6th or 7th grade. I actually study this exact thing in university right now, at the beginning of a "Probability And Statistics" course, and I had forgotten almost all of it, hah. It's nice that university courses sometimes review stuff like this.

What about outliers though?
@DangerDonkey9 жыл бұрын
Outliers are just marked on the outside. If they are less than the lower fence and greater than the upper fence then they are outliers
@ft.janice9 жыл бұрын
Sabrina Collins moderate/mild outliers are beyond the inner fence but within the outer fence, servere outliers are those beyond the outer fence :)
@thanasisbasiakos35645 жыл бұрын
IQR (Inter-Quartile Range is 3rd quartile - 1st quartile (57-50=7). Outliers are values that are more than 1.5*IQR (1.5*7=10,5) above or below the 1st and 3rd quartiles. So for example if there was a value 70 (which is 57+13, and since 13 is more than 10,5 it's outside the range) it is called an outlier and is marked by an asterisk at it's position. The end of the whiskers is the next smaller number.

You do not include the median when finding Q1 and Q3. You must leave the median out of it. It just so happened that these numbers worked with using the median, which is misleading.
@pastivityy10 жыл бұрын
But what if you have 2 numbers in the middle?
@Damnisuck10 жыл бұрын
you add both of the numbers and divide by 2.it doesn't matter if you get decimal numbers its still your median

Wow I have being told wrong for 8 years of school they say math is math everywhere but not in school wow

anything lower than the lower quartile - 1.5 x interquartile range. Or, anything higher than the upper quartile + 1.5 times the interquartile range

Remember to always include the median when making box-and-whisker plots. This video was misleading because Khan suggests you can sometimes not include it, but that's false.
