Fun fact: When Arius was presenting his case for Jesus at the Council of Nicaea, a bishop from Myra in Turkey, went up to his face and slapped him in the face so hard, that he was imprisoned for it, but he was personally set free by Constantine. And that Bishop was St. Nicholas (a.k.a Santa Claus)

When I was undergoing my Confirmation as a Catholic schoolboy, we were instructed to memorize the Nicene Creed (Nicene-Constantinian) from memorization. No lessons on what everything means, no teaching of the nuances of WHY we were proclaiming this creed and its history, absolutely nothing. Just complete and outright regurgitation of words we didn't understand and phrases that went over all of our heads

Interesting to note Arian's version of Jesus, as well as other unitarians, ie. those who reject the trinity, is close to Islam's view of Jesus, that being Jesus as a man. In the Islamic perspective, Constantine adapted his version of Christianity with Roman beliefs, and then persecuted thereafter Christians who followed other versions of Christianity, such as those of Arian. So, in essence, it is believed that the original form of Christianity is about Jesus being a servant, messenger of God, a messiah, but not God himself.

Constantine did not adapt annything, he himself was adopted into the one true church.

I like this channel but this one is too big to just let slip by. The Arian controversy did not occur in a vacuum. To say that there were multi sects won't help either. Arius (and the subsequent debate, insert 2nd 3rd Oeucumenical Councils) came up with his idea **because of** a controversy that stirred you the church in the 2nd century : Modalism aka Sabellianism aka Monarchianism aka Modal Monarchism, which boils down to this Economic Trinity (Trinity to the world) = Ontological Trinity (Trinity by essence), God has 3 hats: Father hat, Jesus hat, Spirit hat. That heresy was condemned. Now enter Arius. The last thing they wanted to avoid was to be associated with Modalism. Arius, in a sense thought of himself as a "protector" sound doctrine by separating (at all cost) The Father and the Son (again, think Modalism). Hence, he introduced the Creator / Creation divide. And then... Controversy. Again, this channel is great but this is just too big to just let slip by.

They were the largest unified front. The non-trinitarians outnumbered them but due to not being able to make up their mind and thus not being able to present a united front, they lost the debate. This isn't even getting into the more recent historical evidence showing that Arius and Athanasius were both coming from the same school of thought (Origen) and putting their own spin on things to try and make sense of things, which came about in Arius emphasizing monotheism and the position that God has, while Athanasius emphasized the unique nature of Christ and the position that he has.

There are so many ways to interpret the relationship between God and Jesus, that all these minor disagreements would allow the largest minority, which even though vastly outnumbered, would through it's cohesion, be able to browbeat everyone else. The council of Nicaea was a dog and pony show put on by Constantine and those bishops who supported the thesis that the Father and Son are of the same substance, and that the Son and Father are both fully God. Like Ptolemy 1, Constantine was trying to unite an empire under his rule and they both arrived at the same conclusion to use religion to do this. Ptolemy 1 created the man/god Serapis and the Cult of Serapis, while Constantine and those bishops seeking the power and influence of the Emperor created a man/sungod Jesus and the pagan religion of Christianity. Have you ever wondered why only 300 of the 1800 bishops, supposedly invited to the council with all expenses paid, bothered to show up? Did they have something better to do at that time or were the vast majority of bishops not holding the same view as Constantine and those 300 bishops who did show. So only 1/6 of the bishops set the tone for all of Christianity. You have to wonder how many of those 5/6 were excommunicated or wound up dead, or just went along to get along? There's a lot of things that we do not learn about history, because history is written by the victors. In the case of Christianity it is written by those bishops who sought power and the Emperor who gave it to them. No matter how you view it, it goes without question, the religion of Christianity came about through the syncretizing of pagan beliefs and holidays into a Western Philosophy stylized movement, based on the teachings of Jesus and the Old Testament. Over the course of history Christianity canonized it's own New Testament, selecting writings that supported it's doctrines and the dogma it taught.

He burned alive countless "heretics"(Arians and Jews) who rejected this idolatry insertion . He also criminalized Judaism by death penalty for teaching Torah or ordaining rabbi s. In Roman Church archives it shows he killed more people as heretics in roman coliseums than the pagan roman s did. Look up "comma debate,Trinity,Tertullian". שלום

@thedisintegrador5 жыл бұрын
Shayne Fowley with that exact wording you won’t find it there, that’s the language of the ecumenical councils and of the Fathers, but the best places you can go are the gospel of John. Like John 1:1-5, John 17 and other places. And then there are the epistles. Colossians 1:15 and onwards nicely portrays the relation of Son and Father. First epistle of John is also nice. But John 1:1-5 is the basis. Father and his Logos are distinct, but yet they are both the One God. And I am not really sure, but I think the hypostasiis share in divinity but not in substance. If they shared their respective substances, they would be indistinguishable, i.e., Jesus would be praying to himself. But this is scholastic language and that came long after the roman patristic period.

Can we say that Arius was in total disagreement of the incarnation of Jesus? I think that's why the Nicene Creed was created. @Altair1904 Жыл бұрын
The Pope still affirmed the council and he was represented by 2 delegates. My understanding is that Tertullian has to be taken with a grain of salt as he also died away from true Orthodoxy by embracing Montanism. My understanding is that Tertullian articulated that the Logos and the Spirit were brought forth by the Father and not eternally distinct. Ontologically however they were still eternal. This was an understanding corrected at Nicaea with the doctrine of eternal generation which professes an eternal distinction between the three persons of the Holy Trinity

@dandugo20204 жыл бұрын
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one being (Yahweh, in English versions Yahweh is normally just replaced with God but this does not do justice to the Hebrew translations of the old testament) but different aspects of the same being. To simplify, Yahweh is so great, powerful, and loving to us that He divided Himself into 3 persons as a grace to us because we are incapable of sustaining the fullness of God. The Father is the genesis of all creation because He the brains/though of Yahweh, the Holy Spirit is the energy or presence of Yahweh, and the Son (most common occurrence in the bible is Jesus, God in the flesh) is the voice of God. This is proven by Genesis 1 with the order of creation; the Father is relieved in verse 1 who created the molecules/materials needed for all existence with His thought, verse 2 the Holy Spirit imparts energy needed for all creation with just His presence, and in verse 3 the Son (voice/Word of God) forms the matter and energy together when it says "And God said "Let there be light...". This also further puts understanding on how much John 1:1-18 puts into context that Jesus is the Son of God and not just a prophet or someone with mental issues. From beginning to end the bible is one interwoven and flawless textbook on how to have a relationship with Yahweh. So, Arius at face value may have some logic but a minimal understanding of the complexity of God's grand scheme and His players guide (the bible) quickly debunks his theory.

@Joshua S ✝ Ain't sure why are you very selective in choosing your verse to proof Jesus's divinity. There are many evidence across the Bible that Jesus was a prophet who came to proclaim the message of One God. 1. John 14:28 The Father is greater than I. This is another strong statement that makes a distinction between Jesus and God. 2. Matthew 26:39 My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me, yet not as I will, but as Thou will. Jesus’ will is likewise autonomous from God’s Will. Jesus is seeking acquiescence to God’s will. 3. John 5:26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. Jesus received his life from God. God received his life from no one. He is eternally self-existent. 4. John 5:30 By myself, I can do nothing: I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who has sent me. Jesus says, “by myself, I can do nothing.” This indicates that Jesus is relying upon his own relationship with God. He is not trying to “please myself” but rather is seeking to “please the one who sent me.” 5. John 5:19 The Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees the Father doing, because whatever the Father does, the Son does also. Jesus declares that he is following a pattern laid down by God. He is expressing obedience to God. 6. Mark 10:18 Why do you call me good? No one is good, except God alone. Here Jesus emphatically makes a distinction between himself and God. 7. Matthew 24:36 No one knows about that day or hour, not even the Son, but the Father only. Here Jesus makes a distinction between what he knows and what the Father knows. 8. Matthew 6:9 Our Father, which art in Heaven. He didn’t pray, Our Father, which art standing right here!” 9. Matthew 27:46 My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me? Inconceivable if he is God the Creator. 10. John 17:21-23 . . .that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. . ..that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. In this prayer Jesus defines the term “to be one.” It is clearly accomplished through the relationship of two autonomous beings. Christian believers are to model their relationship (to become one) after the relationship of God and Christ (as God and Christ are one). Notice that “to be one” does not mean to be “one and the same.”

And now a lot of Christians have fallen victim to false doctrine, leading to vain worship. Sad to see the pure doctrine of Christ be tainted by man.
@ThePainkilla63 жыл бұрын
@kyara ksf one of the greatest examples is the idea of essence and substance. This was a concept that Plato and Aristotle had taught often which was later introduced and debated by Christians. Essence, being the form or immaterial characteristics, and substance, being the physical make-up or material side. Augustine and Thomas Aquinas were most known for combining philosophy with Christianity. These ideas lead to the institutionalized implementation of the idea of the Trinity. Now, most Christians have accepted the idea of the trinity without realizing that it was canonized because of debate and voting, and that early Christians recognized the distinct difference between God the Father and Jesus Christ. To them (the early Christians) God the Father’s relationship with His Son was comparable to that of how we understand parental relationships today.

I was raised SDA, there's alot of dogma I had to unlearn just to be here today. Like they have dumb rules like no caffeine or meat, JESUS PREPARED FISH, I don't need Ellen G. White, I need JESUS THE MESSIAH.

Guys I don't want to sound rude. But in the Bible God says that he's not the author of confusion. And since Constantine you guys have been nothing but confused. Which logically means the scripture and the your religion has been tempered with. It's a logical outcome you can't hide from the fact. Now if the message is tempered with, what should God do? His next step has to be to send a new messenger and a preserved holy book with the original message. Now I believe Quran is that preserved scripture in its original language, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final messenger and Islam (which means submitting to The One and Only God) is the religion for us all that began with Adam (peace be upon him) and got perfected in the time Muhammad (pbuh). And as a Muslim I love Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) and believe in his miraculous birth, I'm at peace, nothing is confusing. As a brother I would ask you guys to study Bible yourself (without the influence of church) and you'll find predictions about the final prophet and then study Quran (just a read, see if it makes sense). Thanks, God bless.

According to the Nicene Creed, the Father really isn't a father. He's more of a mystical philosophical father, since he really didn't proceed the son. Makes total sense. I think? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
