there is no toll charge for BKK and Khaoyai

We are from Singapore and we find it quite safe, road are actually quite nice to travel, you may want to rent a SUV just in case there are more water or some big holes in the road, usually in year-end, not many rain. During the month of Oct, it was still in the raining season so we experience lot of water. But 90% of the roads are smooth and patience and polite drivers in Thailand, no honking. Well, Khaoyai is outskirt not in Bangkok. Bangkok may be totally different and is not ideal for driving.

Mine is Sixth, pick up in airport. Get a SUV if you don't mind pay more especially good for rainy season as many places are with waters and you need pass through them. If dry season, that's ok but still hv to be careful with the sudden big big holes in the middle of road, which can quite dangerous.

If your driving license is in English then you may not need an international driving permit. If not, it is best if you get the international driving permit as it is required if you get asked by the police on the road.
