Such a poignant film, bringing out the intense struggle that these poor, homeless, pastoral people have to face, when their only means of livelihood, the camel's which they graze, are denied entry into their natural habitat...the mangrove forests. In the name of development, or rather improving the lot of the vested interests, by depleting the land of mangroves ,so that the larger areas of land become arid and turn into salt pans....the camel's and the herders are being strangled to death...is this any kind of environment conservation? Please let not these ancient practises of herding be controlled ,and an ancient nomadic tribe be systematically decimated, by the dim wits who posture as environmentalists. These simple ,wonderful Rabaris are part of our cultural ethos. If they go , it will sound the death knell of our cultural- socio fabric. The biggest sin we can commit. How can we help the voices of this gentle community be heard by the ruthless powers that be? How can we stop this insanity?

This got me curious to see that how these ‘Kharai’ camels swim. In addition what i found that they swim actually more than 3 km at a time even in deep waters and for about eight months in a year they are completely dependent on the mangrove islands for basic organic food.
