That's not really how it works, Russia/USSR's strength has always been to cooperate with elites, let the work be done. In a society imbued with ideology, reducing deviation gives draconian punishment (a guy in Odessa on a t-shirt with the USSR. Praised Communism on the Internet, got 8 years), this is valid Nazi Germany and also the former Warzwa Pact countries. It is important not to weaponize the worst thugs of the regime, other hand people like Hjalmar Schart, Albert Speer and Friedrich von Paulus. Such can be found in Ukraine, the clearest example being Oleksii Arestovych (a mix between Rudolf Hess and Speer) and politicians now on the fringes, who previously held positions Yulia Tymoshenko. If you have removed an entire organization such as the US in Iraq, where large parts of the police disappeared and former soldiers were recruited to Isis. Ramzan Kadyrov and the clan, were in Chechnya first violent opponents, now allies. This is in line with Clauswitz's way of thinking that you create peace, with diplomacy. West Germany had several colonels and generals from the Wehrmacht in its defense/intelligence service, likewise East Germany to a much lesser extent, but after all three generals from the Wehrmacht. The Wehrmacht, especially on the Eastern Front and the Balkans, throughout its operations was involved in war crimes. There is an oppurnism throughout the history of Ukraine, the elite ally with the winning side, it can bring the most benefits. In the 80s, Petro Poroshenko was an ardent communist active in the youth union, known as an agitator, and later an officer in the Red Army. Do I mean someone like Poroshenko should have any function in future Ukraine. No. Tymoshenko/Arestovych as president no with other functions, e.g. Arestovych minister of education and responsible for minority rights. There is out there a colonel or lieutenant colonel, a Kurt Waldheim, or even better Willy Brandt who can unite Ukraine, leave the West.

"The goal is NOT to win these wars. The goal is to use the wars to wash money out of the tax bases of the United States and out of the tax bases of European countries and back into the hands of a transnational security elite. So many think thanks sucking millions of dollar for so many years ! They ignore the basic principle of “never under estimate your opponent” . Pure banality living in Lala land. They took a very long time to remove everything combat-ready from the border with Russia, and sent it to Zaporozhye and Donetsk. Did they think they hadn't seen it from Russia? They tried to talk about some kind of super-powerful defensive lines near Kharkov. Did they think that the lack of this defense was not visible from Russia? The problem of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is not the attack on Kharkov. The problem is that anywhere on the border of Ukraine with Russia, the same thing can happen. And do not think that Russia needs intelligence to know what is close to its border. It was precisely the exact knowledge of what was there that allowed small detachments without armored vehicles to crack the defenses. In Ukraine, there are only those units that are used only there. Russia has never used reserves or regular troops in Ukraine. But the Russian army that operates in Ukraine also has enough reserves. And yes, Ukraine will not be able to build defensive lines for 500km, for the same reason. Ukraine does not have so much concrete, Ukraine does not have construction equipment for these works. And most importantly, Ukraine has no place to get an army of builders for this construction. Russia had to retreat for the reason that at the initial stage, the small Russian army met such weak resistance that it captured more territory than it could control. This was a surprise for Russia.

Sounds like those inexperienced Russian units were the ones that spent over a year training before they went into combat. These guys were probably the guys that were called up during the first recruitment phase and were trained by combat veterans rotated out of the combat zones. They were also retrained during training on the new tactics of drone warfare.

The only negotiation that Russia would want is an unconditional surrender from the Ukrainian side. Otherwise it would be pointless to negotiate as the West have a tendency to be agreement non compliant as Lavrov would say.

Davies believes Russia was “surprised” by Ukraine’s Kharkov offensive. Nothing could be more wrong: Russia knew they couldn’t retain the territory and withdrew leaving a skeleton crew but put in significant fire power. They created a fire pocket for the attacking Ukrainian troops. The Russians lost 200 KIAs but the Ukrainians had several thousand KIAs and several more thousand wounded. Russia had already altered strategy to attrition by this point and this was part of blunting or draining the Ukrainian ability of attacking as well as shortening the Russian lines, which was badly needed at this time because Russia simply didn’t have enough trained troops for such a long line of conflict.

About the Russian troops not having experience. Something i have noticed is probably the most effective ISR and targeting in this area throughout the war. Around 50 strikes on artillery tubes there in about 5 days. Massive use of laser guided artillery. Lancets are striking in a very short time window. The force used in general may be inexperienced but there artillery units, lancet operators are operating like a well oiled machine. If these guys are inexperienced then their training has been really good.

Let us face a reality of Patriot air defense system. Decent in anti - aircraft role. Unable to intercept ballistic missiles. Like 3 % efficiency . Since Patriot interceptor costs around $ 3 million and full battery costs close to $ 1 billion - this makes all things one big money eater. Plus Patriot is generally a stationary system. Can be moved from one place to another but this is not an effortless enterprise.Over all Patriot equals approx. old Soviet era S 300 at 15 X the cost. Thank you, US military industrial complex.

Col. Davis, the correct pronunciation of Kharkov in Russian is "Harkov." The "kov" is pronounced as in English "cough." In Ukrainian the name is pronounced "Harkiv." That's why the MSM uses the Ukrainian spelling Kharkiv. However, Kharkov is a city with a long history in Russia (until 1992), and the majority of its population still speaks Russian, so Kharkov is also used by some Ukrainians and by Russians. But please be sure to pronounce the name so it begins with "H." In the same way, Kherson in the south is pronounced "Herson."
