🎷 How I love Bra Khaya Mahlangu. I had the privilege of meeting three of these four musicians last year: Sphelelo Mazibuko on drums, Benjamin Jephta on bass and met Bra Khaya at Eugene Skeef's convocation in May last year (2023). I am yet to meet Sanele. An honour I tell you. Also, I have watched them perform at different events altogether multiple times... Meticulous musicians I tell you. I am bewildered by their musicality. They truly fellowship with their audience. Sphelelo will forever smile while he bobs and cocks his head, side by side, to the rhythm of the beat.

When most of our past local Jazz legends are gone, one would think that South African Jazz is also gone or dead, Khaya Mahlangu is just a living Jazz legend destined to keep the South African Jazz legacy going. Thanks to the House on the hill for giving our local Jazz artists performance opportunities. I enjoyed the concert because that's how I feel at home even if I am far away. Enkosi.

By the age of seventeen during the 1970's I had listened to, "live", most of the musicians who were active at the time, from Kiepie to Mankunku, Matshikiza, Duku Makasi, etc. , but the first time I saw our musicians act with strict professionalism and discipline was when Sakhile under the leadership of Khaya Mahlangu hit the scene, which was a bit unsettling because music at the time was treated as a hobby. Great to see him keeping up with the youngsters.
