It’s interesting with the different cultures paddy. My thai wife almost never hugs her parents or sisters etc when we visit Thailand. They show their love and care in different ways such as helping each other in times of need and spending time eating together. Also acts of affection in public are often looked down upon. Where as us westerners will hug and kiss our partners in public and think nothing of it. I just follow suite and say sawatdee krup with a wai to all the elders when I visit there.

A wai consists of a slightly smaller bow so yes technically you are right. Depending upon who you are talking to will determine how low the bow in the wai is

ok I think I know how the wai works but not 100 percent on it.. I thought the bow is all the same but your hands are higher up your face the higher rank you are. LIke doing a wai to budda your hands should be up near your top of your nose but if your doing a wai to a kid your hands should be down my your chin...

We're not so touchy ans stuff. Real thai people we really care about how to act in public and alwyas be aware of what you're doing. It's sad sometime you see some young people try to copy western culture style. By the way we only do that to elder people not to friends or such
