Ukrainian indie-pop diva Khrystyna Soloviy, who got famous through KZbin with over 120 million views on her channel, unexpectedly presents her first French-speaking song. She pays homage to 20th century French pop legend Serge Gainsbourg, who is known for concept albums and rock star lifestyle. Few people know that Gainsbourg has Jewish Ukrainian origin therefore, the homage to the French chansonnier paid by Ukrainian singer is special.
“I have admired Serge's art since my adolescence. I am inspired by his outrage and sense of freedom. I am impressed by his eternal decadent youth and how he produces sad songs in a positive way.” - fascinatedly said Soloviy.
Khrystyna in her “Les Goémons” version produced hip-hop beats with a pop-rock form as a nostalgia for the vintage sound. The singer dreams of recording a French-language album to try herself in the French music market.
“For me this is a topical song about fading youth. The cover was created during rehearsals with my band, so the record has the feeling that it was played live. I chose this song because I have been enjoying it in my playlist for about a decade. It also seems to me that my French sounds sexy, so I like to sing French-speaking songs. I dream of writing my own French-language album. I'm very curious if my “Les Goémons” version will find modern French listeners,” - Soloviy revealed why that song.
The 28-years-old singer is also known in Ukraine as a francophile and ambassador of French culture. Soloviy got famous through her author's Ukrainian-speaking baroque-pop hit “Trymai” (‘Hold me’), the video of which was viewed more than 35 million times on KZbin. The influence of French chanson and Yann Tiersen’s soundtrack from “Amelie” movie is noticeable in the song.
