The absence of a parent can destroy a child's life, especially when the child's relatives are toxic individuals.

You have no idea how painful it's like not having parents to guide you. I thank God I had a loving grandmother. Nomali probably lacked that and that is why she made mistakes. Kids need BOTHA parents for love, guidance and support.

I'm very happy for the lady in the 1st episode, how she endured so much pain from her siblings upon her Mothers death & also how her real family welcomed her but was a bit disappointed in her blaming her Father with her drug problem simply because he wasn't in the picture. The world owes us nothing & she learnt that & picked herself up, love her spirit & she's also doing a great job as a young Mother.

A person's mental health can be affected by things like this. Other than losing a child, losing a parent is one of the most traumatic things a person can go through. Add on that being left in the care of toxic/emotionally abusive relatives and it becomes trauma on top of trauma. Many people turn to drugs just to cope with everything.
