Thank you for a great review. My wife swapped her Sportage for the EV3 and we have had it for almost 3 weeks. Because of an arm problem we needed an electric tailgate and it only comes on the GT Line S. My wife has driven the car twice and she is waiting for me to get bored with all the tech. That is mot going to happen soon. I disagree it is only a town car. the range is very good. We travelled to one of our family who lives 90 miles away. I charged to 90% as it is mainly a motorway journey at 70 mph and I expected the range would be lower than town driving. We got there and back with 60 miles range still left. There was no range anxiety at all. I love the car and we have agreed when we travel together we will use the KIA.

Wait that's not good..... A car that claims 375miles n 350mile in the gt line..... Yet basically only gives out 250miles....... That has put me off this now..... Think I should pay the extra and just get the Q6 n be guaranteed at least 300 miles
@RobertBuckley-tj3px2 күн бұрын
@ the Q6 is a different animal. Starting at over £60;000 I would hope it would give at least 300 miles. Looks a good car but not the one for my wife. Driving locally with some dual carriageway journeys we are getting 320 miles from a full charge. Driving conditions make such a difference to range in all EV’s. Good luck and enjoy whatever you go for.

Just finished watching the review, you earned a new subscriber. Great detailed review. No BS. You did a great showcase of the annoying bits of the car too. I always appreciate an honest review. Thanks a lot! I have watched a lot of EV3 reviews and it feels like these are the three big misses with this car: - Only FWD - Memory seats only on GT Line (which means the car starts at 40k Euros for me) - Glass roof is tiny (-) Lots of annoying beeps (tiny miss) Besides these, it seems great on all fronts. - Wireless carplay - True one pedal drive with easily adjustable regen - Traditional user interface with many useful buttons - Frunk (tiny but still fits the cable) - Decent space - Decent dimensions especially considering the battery size. As you mentioned, you can almost get the new facelifted ioniq 5 at this price. It has all the same positives as this only negative would be the dimensions and bad turning radius of that car. At similar prices I am afraid the ioniq 5 makes more sense...

Very good summary Arda bey! 😊 Glad you liked the review! That's my conclusion too. If you are looking at the GT-line there's a lot of alternatives. You get an Ioniq 5 AWD LR if you add 1400 Euros.

It seems like the base trim is the best value. I agree that the top-spec EV3 is less attractive. Would be great if you can review the base trim and see what you think

Thanks for a well considered review. Moving out of our 10yr old Honda Jazz, I don’t want a bigger car than this, so yes the top spec is expensive but I’m not interested in the bigger cars you compared it to. I would be happy with most aspects of the lower spec but it seems the V2X is only available on the most expensive version. I want this to make full use of the roof top solar on our house (in Australia). It seems to me the EV3 has the best resolved tech of any small electric car currently on the market.

regarding price point: Ev3 air long range is 35k in Austria. That makes it the best 35k ev even better than the model 3. But if you make the ev3 more expensive by adding extras, it loses its lead. At 40k for example the model 3 long range rwd wins.

Definitely long range capable with the big battery. I mean, you can go quite far after starting on a full charge, and then 30 minutes to get back 80% - that's good enough for occasional non-business road trips. Also with the 1000 kg towing, and I wouldn't need more space to be honest, it could be a main or an only car in my book.
@ItsOnlyElectric2 күн бұрын
You are right, definitely the most long range capable alternative in the segment.

Interesting that you found the ride soft … I was expecting it to be softer than it is. To me it felt almost identical to drive and in its ride characteristics as the Kia XCeed, and I have had two of them (outstanding car by the way). To me it was just very typically Kia. And that’s a strong endorsement. I really like it but I did feel it could be quicker off the line than it was. It was fine, but not quite as punchy as I expected. The front wheel drive traction was actually better than expected. Wheelspin was corrected in a fraction of a second when the wheels lost traction if gunning it on a wet road while also turning right or left. Good for tyre wear! I personally had no problem with the on/off switch position, it works fine for me, and if you have to have one, I prefer this location.
@ItsOnlyElectric7 күн бұрын
It's a great car overall . The suspension is doft to me, more like Hyundai than Kias I gave tried feels a bit stiffer/sportier. Haven't tried the XCeed. The FWD works for the amount of power. Under steering I'd you push it. But it's not a var you push that way anyways. 😊

Base trim is more than enough for me except for the lack of memory seats. We have multiple drivers in the family I can't accept a car without memory seats in 2024 let alone manually adjustable seats. To get the memory seats we have to go with the highest spec... Waste of money.

Would have been a good optional add-on. And memory seats would be utilized on the screen with an unlimited amount of profiles not only 2 slots.

It’s interesting that this class off vehicle is divided about whether to use front or rear wheel drive; Hyundai/Kia and Renault choose front and VW group and Geely brands going for rear. Who’s right?
@ItsOnlyElectric6 күн бұрын
I would say that the biggest advantage of FWD EVs is that it's cheaper to build and can potentially benefit the consumer in price. RWD is in most cases superior when it comes to handling. It's harder to recover a RWD car when losing grip so FWD is safer in that manner. But RWD cars hit any upper limit in torque since it's losing grip easier when accelerating due to the weight lifts the front. So I would say that none of it is wrong, it's just different strategies. Are you looking for a more fun driving experience than RWD is the choice .

@@ItsOnlyElectric It will be interesting to see which way Nio goes with its Firefly models.
@ItsOnlyElectric6 күн бұрын
@andrewkirk3159 I'm pretty sure it's RWD due to its amazing turning radius, don't think that's possible to achieve with a FWD and it's too cheap to have rear axle steering.

Seems odd they can't get faster charging on 400V as there are other 400V cars that charge faster or have a higher peak rate. Mind you it's not the peak but the charge curve that matters so will be interested to see that test when you do it. As for the driver only climate control feature I've had that on my previous EV the original Hyundai Ioniq 28kWh and on my new 2024 Kona(top spec) and neither one of them made much difference typically it is about gaining 1km of range that is all I've ever seen so I don't bother with it anymore. Do you get the EV5 if so will be curious what you think of it vs the EV3.

In my opinion Kia is trying to rebrand the Niro EV with a bigger battery as a EV3 to make it more expensive/desireable. But with a 400v system, FWD, low power it’s not comparable with the other eGMP cars.
